according to 60 minutes SW is going PG-13

(CBS) "Star Wars" goes to hell in its final episode, and the trip may cost it the PG rating that the previous five films have earned, says the series' creator, George Lucas.

Speaking to Correspondent Lesley Stahl, the filmmaker provides a peek at the much anticipated movie for a report to be broadcast on 60 Minutes, Sunday, March 13, at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

"I don't think I would take a 5- or a 6-year-old to this," says Lucas of "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith." "It's way too strong."

Lucas is referring to violent scenes in the film and also to Anakin Skywalker's journey to the dark side in the climax of the 30-year-old series.

"We're going to watch him make a pact with the devil," Lucas tells Stahl.

This new turn will include the former squeaky-clean Skywalker descending into Lucas' frightening vision of Hell, a mythical planet composed entirely of erupting volcanos.

"Yes...the lava at the end...it ends in Hell," reveals Lucas.

"[The film] is much more dark...more emotional. It's much more of a tragedy. My feeling is that it will probably be a PG-13, so it will be the first 'Star Wars' that's a PG-13."

And that's fine with Lucas. "I could pull it back a little bit, but I don't really want to," he says.

And Lucas says he isn't bothered by the withering reviews critics gave episodes one and two. "Actually, I am very happy," he says. "I'm very pleased with the whole thing."

i'm actually really glad to hear this. i can only imagine all the stuff they would have cut out to bring it down to a PG rating. Smile

you got that right pal!
i think we all knew that it was going to be a ESB-esque flick, how the story is dark and the bad guy wins....i love it when the bad guys win. going a bit of tangent, but i would love to see a movie(w/sequels) where the bad guys always win. i think it would be awesome and so outside the norm of hollywood.

Ah, but there is a difference between hero, anti-hero, and villain.

Now this is great news, DND, and I'm really looking forward to this pectacular cinematic event!

First of all, Lucas has been saying he wants this movie to be PG-13 since preproduction.

Secondly, it has NOT been confirmed yet that this is a PG-13 movie. I'll celebrate when we get official word.

Thirdly... woo-hah. I love that new trailer. Very Happy

Well I for one would be glad if they rated it PG-13. Then it's guareented all the cutesyness from the other prequels is gone Smile ! Although on the other hand it kind of ruins the trilogy in a way, since the first 2 are PG, the third is PG-13 then 4-6 are PG. I mean if it were the 6th one then it might seem better but haveing the ratings change right in the middle Rolling Eyes ...

Why do so many people seem to think Jedi was PG-13? At my old school, everyone was convinced of that, citing Leia's slave outfit as the reason.
