Okay, mine will be done after all. Took a night of building (and I'll put in a couple more hours today,) but it'll be ready.

I said "To heck with accuracy!" and went my own direction with the design. It's nothing extreme, but it is recognizable as being based on an AT-AT head, and I think it does a pretty good job of sticking to the proportions of the Lego set. Pics later.

I could give you any number of legitimate excuses, but rules are rules and this is technically late. Oh well, it was a fun build.

Gallery when modded

Deeplinks:
1, 2, 3, 4

It was really hard to photograph because of the cramped quarters inside, but the control sticks end up in the pilots hands, and the scope ends up right in front of the commander's face when everything is all folded up. I don't have any officers or another pilot, so I just used a spare biker scout in the commander's place.

This head connects right onto the neck joint on the official set.

Note- I liked Crawdaddy's hologram Vader idea, and modified it a bit. I wouldn't have thought of it if I hadn't seen it in his entry.

that model looks more like an AT-PT cockpit rather than an AT-AT cockpit, still so nice i liked it very much..! maybe if you insist you will be able to show up in the contest Sad

It looks like brickshipyard's and Joe's AT-AT heads have almost nothing in common except that they use the tall "tree arch" piece in the side of the head.

This is not plagiarism.

I showed the pics to some friends, and not knowing what it was they assumed it was the start of a new ship. Then I told them it was an AT-AT head, and they got it. But their suggestion (like yours) that I keep working on it and turn it into a ship is one I might pick up on. Likely it would be a Jade Empire ship, which is a faction that hasn't seen any new mocs in many moons.

Plagiarism means to copy someone's work without their permission or giving them credit. So what do you mean by "emulate"?

If you're trying to say that you think they did an equally good job of achieving accuracy and detail, then please be clear with that. Otherwise, I don't think it's polite to criticize or point fingers at a competitor's work during a contest. Also, everyone here is trying to build an AT-AT cockpit, so sure, there's going to be some overall resemblance between models, right?

Nice work, Ryan. Looks very slick and compact. I hope you can build the rest of the AT-AT with that style and show it to us. Smile

If you think he tried to emulate the same shape using totally different building techniques, you'd be absolutely right. Everybody here is trying to emulate the shape of an AT-AT head (unless, of course, you're going the original design route).

Drawing attention to an entrant needlessly like this is, in my opinion, insipid and arrogant. I don't think you were too serious with it, so I feel bad acting this way, but frankly you should take it more seriously. It's not very fair and sportsmanlike. If I were brickshipyard, I'd be quite offended.

I suggest to the mods wiping all posts concerning this issue from the thread, either moving them to a new topic or just deleting them. I feel bad being involved in a contest with these sentiments being tossed around and entrants recieving unfair bad PR.

Just to set the record straight, I never saw the AT-AT Ischler linked to until I clicked on his link. Jas Hodge's incredible rendering was my only reference for this project. I appreciate fellow members understanding of random similarities of building techniques due to the nature of this project. Thanks and good luck to all.

Lights, thanks for the compliments and the homage. Smile

I was thinking the same thing too when I saw your entry--that w/ a few additions/mods, you could turn it into a great looking ship.

Wow, who'd have thought that a model that uses the 2x4 printed slope from the official set for the viewport would be stealing the show? Razz

Despite the small scale, I admit Crawdaddy's always did jump at me as particularly nice and clean-looking.

well, let me give an example: the turbo tank costs 89.99$ on shop.lego.com(thats the official one because), and in a local toy shop here it costs 300 YTL which makes 220$, see the difference? i bought my last lego set in 2004, the AT-AT, in Legoland Windsor, since then i only play with my older sets...
