The Dallas/Fort Worth area was subjected to one heckuvan ice storm last night. School is canceled, work is canceled, and I'm LOVIN' IT!

Yeah, I know a lot of you are like, "Please, that's a beautiful summer day for us!" Guys like Turk and Pepa go swimming in this kind of weather. Well, we're in Texas. This is absolute madness for us. (Though I could totally go swimming right now!) _________________

aww, I love Maddie's shirt/coat! Is this self-knitted?
That's really much ice you have there.
I hope people put not too much salt on the ways, it hurts Maddie's paws. _________________ ~Andi

Cool stuff Collin (see what I did there? Cool....as in cold, you see... )
I'm actually jealous, I'd like to see some ice and snow, but probably wont for a few months. _________________

The sweater is store-bought. And fortunately, we use sand here instead of salt. _________________

"It's coooooooold!"
Heh, that doesn't look like much compared to the stuff we had over here in Inglaterra last month, but for Dallas... yeah, that looks pretty cold. _________________ Somebody set up us the bomb!

Salt pwns all. Sand just makes things messy and slippery, whereas Salt ACTUALLY melts the stuff...having lived for two weeks in nothing but ice, snow, and later slush...Seattle learned it's lesson. They specified they'd use salt next time around. Our car has more salt on it than snow. Headlights don't work. It was Tan, now its White.

Heh, they cancel school and work for that in Texas? That'd be like beach weather in Connecticut right now. We had about a foot a couple weeks back and most of it's still sitting around just to make my 5-day a week walk home (a cold) hell. Fortunately it's only 2 and a half blocks But still a challenge not to slip and cave my head in on black ice. Now I can sympathize with my homies on Hoth.
Did I mention I hate Connecticut? _________________ I was wondering if I might possibly receive a portion of your brain matter to consume. |

heh, don't group me in with Pepa. I'm 6 hours north of him. I have MUCH colder weather

we use a combination of Salt and Sand because, well, it gets to cold for salt to actually be affective in melting the ice. _________________

School was cancelled for me as well, and I love it . The only bad thing was my mom made me get up somewhat early to go snowblow the driveway, which I really didn't mind. Here outside of Cleveland, we got a good foot o' snow with another 5-6 inches expeted throughout the day. _________________ Do or do not, there is no try!!! |

We got ice and snow in St.Louis, and I'm on my second snow day. Not to mention I didn't go to school on Monday from being sick, and we are off on Friday for teacher meetings. Which means a 1 day school week for me! Suckers _________________ BOO! |

That must be quite an event in Texas! When schools close due to snow, it's always a fun day.
Talking about weather, it was -33°C here on monday. That's -27.4 F for you imperialists. I had to put a toque. _________________

What is "Whoo" when your poor dog refuses to walk one step more because all the paws are dark-red from the salt?
I prefer sand or little split stones (or pure snow) _________________ ~Andi

I have a few pictures to post. Collin got the little girl's version of the storm... the real one was up north a bit. Basically, a quarter to half an inch of ice covering every part of my truck, freezing doors shut and requiring some ingenuity to get myself in. Schools closed for 3 days, thus far. _________________ Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe. - Albert Einstein |

Up here in Boston, we got about 6 inches of snow, give or take. Obviously, we had a snow day. _________________ In the brain and not the chest,

Gotta love the local weather reports down here:
"Jane, there is a clear watery substance, much like water, but frozen. It's like ice, Jane, and it's everywhere. Check out this bush...covered in what appears to be...ice! 400 people were too weak-willed not to go out and buy pork rinds last night and have, as a result, completely blocked freeways this morning. We could all die (let's just conveniently ignore that it's gonna be back up in the 60s in the next day or two)." _________________ Hail Brains!

You really think your zombie teeth can pierce my mighty dragon/dinosaur/Barbra Streisand skin? I shall make a snack of you, little zombie.
Anyway...
You see where there's windshields and truck? Took me about two hours to chip away enough ice to get there. From the inside, I couldn't break through the ice holding a door shut. Even throwing my weight and shoulder into it.

Since I've finally turned, I can post here with a clear conscience. (MMMMnnnnnnnnnnn! BrAAaaaaaaiinnsss!)
Here in Ohio we had snow yesterday, freezing rain last night and then 6 inches of more snow today. Needless to say we had a level 2 snow emergency all day today and no school or work. I've got some stuff in my garage so I left my car outside and now I can't get in it. The ice is so thick I can't open the doors (about 2 inches thick). _________________

It's essentially shut down the area. Several without power, no internet for most of today (horror of horrors), and most places have been closed. Rumblings are that schools will be closed the rest of the week. Now the bigger problem is that it's melting during the day, freezing at night, and taking down trees. More roads were blocked today from branches than snow. _________________ Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe. - Albert Einstein |
