My family's of the mind that you're never too old for LEGO, thankfully. Wink

My sister and brother-in-law managed to wrangle up one of the $50 castles Walmart had on sale a few weeks back, and mom picked up a few neat smaller, older sets from a local thrift store.

Honestly, it's felt very strange asking for or expecting much this year given how tight the economy and funds are for most everyone, but I'm incredibly grateful that my family and I could get together and share a really fun day together. I hope everyone else celebrating has had just as much fun in their own way.

I got a $25 LEGO gift card, a digital photo keychain, some chocolate from World Market, a small photo album, three shirts, a ratcheting screwdriver, and a Darth Vader dashboard figure that speaks phrases from the movies.

I actually have two more Christmas exchanges - with my dad and at my in-laws' house, so I will probably have a few more things when the exchanges are done.

My wife was kind enough to set aside her... not quite disdain... disapproval? of LEGO to hunker down and buy me a bag of random bits from former displays at a local LEGO store and... wait for it... wait for it... the UCS MF!!

wow. Shocked

I'm still blown away. She also got me 3 cool shirts, some UnderArmor undies, a bizarre cardboard chihuahua (a nifty Japanese model kit), a gift card so's I can buy a car stereo so she won't have to hear me whine anymore, and some yoga aids so she won't have to hear me whine about my flexibility in ju jitsu anymore.

Being married rocks!

Not having kids rocks!

Who thought being a grown up would be so much fun?

No LEGO, but I got my dad (a casual Castle fan) a new Castle LEGO set. Smile

DVDs: Incredible Hulk, Indy 4, Iron Man, and The Dark Knight. I was given Hulk by two different people, so I'ma take one of them back and prob'ly get Wall-E. Smile

I had a great Christmas...with a good haul. I recieved:

1. Guitar Hero World Tour Band Kit
2. 7668 Rebel Scout Speeder x 3
3. 7667 Imperial Dropship x 3
4. $25 McDonald's Gift Card
5. Awesome ski jacket
6. $50 cash
7. $1000 check from my grandparents
8. Stocking Stuffers/Candy
9. Some CDs

My gifts were awesome, but the best part was seeing my dad give my mom a new diamond. She lost her engagement ring about ten months ago, and was really depressed when she did. But my dad got her a new diamond (.75 ct) for Christmas, and omg, she began to cry tears of happiness. It was really emotional and wonderful to see my mom so happy.

Notes on Flickr give a more detailed description of what all of my L00t is.

Here's the deal with the giant Lego Figure:

So the story goes, that my Grandma's been trying to buy this giant lego figure from this little store near where she lives for years, the figure was a Display piece. The store was closing, and so she asked if she could buy it, she was turned down. She returned a few days later, approached another employee if she could buy it for her grandson, and she was able to take it home! She just sent it to me for Christmas this year.

It's roughly a foot and a half tall, and the legs, arms , hands, and head all turn like a real Lego Minifigure can, however, no removeable parts

Santa was good to me this year. My wife and Mother-in-law fed my LEGO obsession well. The haul:

from my wife:

The Twilight
Magnaguard Starfighter
UCS Death Star II
some tighty whities
GameStop giftcard

from my Mother-in-law:
UCS TIE Advanced
Republic Fighter Tank
LEGO Indiana Jones (DS)
a jar of cashews (mmm, cashews)

from my Parents:
Mitre Saw
Two books on Bridge defense (the card game, not the roadway)
a pair of Khakis

from my brother:
GameStop Giftcard

Overall, a pretty good haul. The Twilight set is much better than I had originally thought. The TX-130 and Magnaguard look fantastic, and the two UCS sets are incredible (well, the DS II isn't assembled yet, but the TIE Advanced certainly is incredible).

The GameStop giftcards are destined to become Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced 2 and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, with SW: TFU if there is anything left over.

Not sure when I'll use the Mitre Saw yet. It'll come in handy someday. My father buys me power tools every year, and I always find a use for them.

My son also made a LEGO haul. He got all four of the impulse Racers sets, the Coast Guard set with the truck and motorboat and an Education set with 30 standard yellow smiley minifigs, with accessories. I didn't even know a set like that existed.

From my parents, I got a few DVD's I've been wanting: Captain Blood (Errol Flynn), Shipwrecked, and The Time Machine (old one). I love all of those movies. They also got me a CD of b-sides and rarities by one of my favorite bands, The Anniversary. I got a new guitar amp. It's new to me, but it's quite old and used. My cousin and I found this old Tempo amp in a guitar store a while back, and we loved it. He bought it. He and I tracked another one down on the internet, and my parents got me that one. I also got some fun size candy bars and a snowman Pez dispenser (it had grape, raspberry, and cherry Pez with it).

My older brother got me Bitter Films Volume One on DVD. It's a collection of short animated films by Don Hertzfeldt. I absolutely love "The Meaning Of Life". The Bitter Films DVD didn't get here on time for me to receive it on Christmas morning, so my brother also got on my family's Steam account and got Bioshock for me.

This year was a tough year for all my family. So not much... but we had a marvelous day together that was worth more than any gift I could have gotten.

If everyone had followed the rules, I'd have one gift from a gift-game exchange, but some people broke the rules (and I did a bit too) and here is my modest haul:

*A new set of speakers for my truck. I blew out the stock ones earlier this year. They are basic but perfect.
*Three DVDs: Dark Knight, Jumper, and Indiana Jones 4 (from the gift game)
*A Thousand Splendid Sons, the book by Khalen Huseini
    *An ASU Hoodie
    *$35 in cash
*$60 in VISA Gift Cards (from a family friend who shouldn't have)

The cash and gift cards will go to Rock Band for the 360 and a few warm clothes because in AZ you don't need warm clothes until you start at the University and have to ride buses at 7 am in the morning.

Awesome book in my opinion. Not as good as The Kite Runner, but it still paints an amazing picture of life in Afghanistan. You'll like it for sure.
