As the thread title suggests, I have a question relating to the Republic Gunship, or LAAT/i. I did a search and I found nothing pertaining to this, so I shall start this thread.

My question is:

What types of Phase I clones would ride in the bubble turrets on the wings of an LAAT/i? Would they be regular clones? Pilots? Does any know?

Thank you in advance for any responses.

By Phase I you mean Episode II clones correct? According to wookiepedia, the turrets on the wings are two of four fully "automated" composite-beam, pin-point laser turrets, that do not contain any clones. Click the link and read the end of the third paragraph.

wookiepedia

Hope that answers your question.

I believe that the two bubble turrets do have gunners. On the Crew description for the ship, it states that it has two clone gunners. What they look like, I'm not sure. But maybe they are the new gunners in the new battle packs...I'm not sure though.

Based on foggy memories of ATOC, I think they were regular clones in the bubbles, but possibly pilots.

the way i've always understood it was that the first wave of troops within the army that were at Geonosis, were rushed into service, so the manufacturers never had a chance to define different armor classes. hence the massive changes when the phase 2 clones were introduced....

but to be more relevant, i believe the troopers in the bubble turrets were just standard troopers as far as the armor goes.

Thank you for all the replies. It seems we have conflicting resources here, Wookieepedia and AOTC. I guess I'll just watch AOTC again when I have time and see if I can't spot them.

In response to the thrasher, the new clone in the BP is an AT-TE gunner seen briefly in the movie.

As far as I know the turrets are remotely controlled.

What I did was take two of the remotes(you get three in the set) and put one in each turret. That way, if it is indeed hand controlled it has a somewhat competant and of significantly less worth hand controlling it.

Are they really conflicting, actually? I don't remember ever seeing any clones in the wing bubbles in the film, and couldn't see any in screenshots taken from the film.

The Star Wars: Complete Cross-sections book has an illustration of the RGS as having standard white troops in the bubble turrets.

Cool. I don't actually have that book. Thanks for looking that up.

Galagoo they did show regular clones in the bubble turrets it was only briefly though. If memory serves me right it was during that whole arena rescue.

I always just figured they could be either manned or automated depending on the situation. We see them manned in AOTC, but in ROTS they aren't.

Well, there aren't any in this screenshot (via Wookieepedia and ScreenThemes), which is the largest and best-quality shot of LAAT/i I could find.

I really have to get my hands on AOTC again to check the thing.

I might end up sounding really stupid, and I re-read this 4 times to make sure... but doesn't that picture show two regular clones in the bubble turrets?

It's not stupid, but his question pertained to the bubble turrets on the wings, not the two turrets on the sides of the crew compartment. But yes, the two attached to the crew compartment do hold regular white clones.

The picture that Galagoo linked to is the answer to this question. There are gunners in the side turrets, but not in the wing turrets.
Quote:
four composite-beam, pin-point laser turrets, two of which were automated bubble-turrets located on either wing;

Also the crew list states that it has a pilot, co-pilot, and two gunners, one for each bay turret. The wing turrets are automated and Lego only put seats in them to make the gunship more playable.

The co-pilot controls the wing turrets, I think.

Those guys I referred to are actually the two controlling the laser turrets on either side of the ship, not the wings. Sorry about that. The wings have no clones in them.

Agreed. Also because the colors on the armor were meant in the movies (and AOTC video game, of course) to signify rank, not class of soldier, as they do in Battlefront. So if they did have yellow armored clones in the bubbles (which I distinctly remember plain "shinys"), it must have been an all commander gunship. Smile

Not quite. Are you saying that every single member of the 212th attack battalion happened to be a commander?

Okay, once again, thanks for the replies. Smile So I guess we've decided that the bubbles are unmanned?

No, the bubble turrets (the ones on the sides of the gunship, not on the wings) are manned.

While that may be the actual take on the ship arrangement from the movie and video games, it would appear that Lego wants us to put clone minifigs in the wing bubbles. They created a cradle area for a minifig to sit, and even made us apply the computer sticker near where the bubble is (God, I hated doing that!) So, yes and no. I don't think it really matters--this new RGS isn't actually the same as the old one, so I think you should put minifigs in if you want to.

The original question was:
Quote:
What types of Phase I clones would ride in the bubble turrets on the wings of an LAAT/i? Would they be regular clones? Pilots? Does any know?

which has nothing to do with Lego's latest version of the Gunship.

Yes, but he might have thought there would be clones in the wing turrets because LEGO's gunship has places for them to sit. And, it seems, LEGO is retarded when it comes to movie accurateness.

Exactly. I know that the wing turrets are unmanned, but since Lego made a spot on this Gunship for them, I say why not put some spare clones in there?

Really? I haven't seen the latest Lego Gunship up close yet but that's just crazy. I'll look up some pictures.

EDIT: I just looked up a picture. Very strange. A clone would only be able to shoot up. Razz

Yeah, and how practical would it be for a clone to get in there? Not very. So if I were to mod the RAG, I would make little computers to sit in there.
