HE DIES!?!?

Wow...I read a plot thing that said Cortana/Aribiter died, but Cortana infused herself with The Aribiter to bring him back...hmmm.

Anyone care to clear that up?

*EDIT* Hehe...that was quick

So I guess at the end, the arbiter is the new "shipmaster" since he sits in the chair?

What a game. Johnson died, something I thought we'd never see. Keyes died, not totally unexpected (plus she annoyed me most of the game).

I was a bit freaked out when Spark went evil on us and killed Johnson. But it gave one very good reason to finally finish him off. I enjoyed it. Twisted Evil

Given the spoiler-ific nature of this particular thread, and the fact we were asked, I gave the go-ahead for it. Since there will be a whole lot of people playing, I didn't think we needed the spoilers posted in the VG thread.

I know, I know, a moment of compassion from me, it won't happen again. And the approval for a Duck Hunt thread depends entire on the answer for the question... "Is it a tribute for the version where you can shoot the dog or for the one where you can't?"

Jesus I just played that part this morning before school, I knew already about Miranda's death but WOW Shocked I didn't think Johnson would go out too Crying or Very sad And he went out in such a ***** way, he survived 2 Halos, direct attack by the Flood, first invasion of Earth, being manhandled and beaten by Brutes, only to get killed by a floating ball Crying or Very sad

Okay, the game was awesome! It lived up to my expectations and is well worth the money. That said some parts of the ending were somewhat disappointing. These parts all had to do with the Chief's death, the movie after the credits is an "alternate ending" but in my opinion it was just a backup for Bungie so that if they're ever in trouble they can just say "Oh well the Chief never died". They should have ditched that and have the Chief die in a meaningful and clear way. Just think of how heroic that last shot of 117 scratched onto the memorial would have been. That would have really been an amazing end to the trilogy. Bungie should have thought about this a little more IMHO, really how lame is it that everybody thinks the Chief is toast so they had a service honoring his death when he actually just missed a portal... Confused So in my view of the Halo story the Chief dies of exhaustion because I'm just going to ignore the after credit add on.

I think it was the perfect ending. The game starts with Chief climbing out of a cryo tube. Then, it ends with him climbing into one. The circle is complete.

I agree ^

I also like this exchange:

Lord Hood: "What's your status, son?"
MC: "Green, sir."

Johnson's death was LAME LAME LAME LAME LAME. Seriously, they killed off a beloved character in a pointless way. Imagine if Johnson had been in the warthog with Chief and the Arbiter, then he survived. Johnson was always made to seem immortal, and they just quickly kill him off. Miranda Keyes... I was sad to see her die, since I liked her. I also really think some Spartans from the novels should have at least made an appearance. The story just seemed rushed to me.

Chief's "death" made me think, since he is still alive yet everyone thinks he is dead. In the "Believe" ad campaign, the soldiers supposedly 50 years later make reference to Chief's saving them, then they look sad, implying everyone still thinks he is dead 50 years later! He spent that much time in suspended animation?

The game itself is great, but the 10 levels vs about 15 for the first two games, plus the odd story arc makes me think they rushed this game out.

Good: Alright the game was EXTREMELY fun, thought the story line arced together well, some nice twists and turns, and making the Monitor go boom boom.

The not so good: Alright, for the whole time I was waiting for this to come out I was incredibly excited to fight the Battle of New Mombasa, like they had in the "BELIEVE" ads. Needless to say I was p***** when they didn't have that in the game because 1. Its misleading 2. Those ads are now pointless (except for the man in the museum) and 3. It had nothing to do with the story whatsoever.
Overall, it was a great series with an amazing plot.......and even better multiplayer.

I've never played the games before, only read about Halo here, but last night I saw a trailer for Halo 3 and was blown away. I need to play the first two and hope that 3 is released on PC.

Well, the long tralier (demo) for Halo 2 looked incredible but it was cut from the final game. I really wish that awesome diorama was actually from the game, but whatever. The game has some incredible moments, like driving the Rocket marine on Mogoose vs. a Scarab. Very Happy Very Happy

Yeah! I loved all the Scarab parts. My favorite though, was with the two Scarabs at once, and the Hornet. Very Happy

Personally, I think they chose to focus more on the multiplayer aspect on the game this time, since it was pretty much a given what would happen in the storyline. The Chief would die, humanity would be saved, the Flood and Covenant would fall, and so on.

I think the multiplayer compared to the campaign is incredibly detailed and articulate, whereas, I agree, the campaign was well done, but alas, rushed as well. Only 9 levels?

I think in the first Halo Bungie decided to make an awesome storyline in a FPS that was equally cool. And the succeeded. Then for Halo 2, they added a few perks on the multiplayer, and then really focused on the Covenant and Arbiter rather than the Chief. In the 3rd one, since the ending of the story was pre-determined for most, they just decided I guess to make the multiplayer the juice of the game.

And now that I think about it, I wasted all my ammo on Guilty Spark and didn't even see the Spartan Laser until almost too late. I didn't even know Sgt. Johnson had died.

How many hidden skulls have you guys gotten for Halo 3? I just got my seventh. Very Happy

The grunt birthday part one is the best. A headshot on a grunt makes it explode into confetti and you hear children yell: "Yay!"

MASTER CHIEF DOES NOT DIE! Everyone thinks he does, but if you watch after the credits, he is presumed dead but he is actually alive, and he goes into a cryo chamber to await rescue.

I'm no good at finding skulls, but I guess I'll look them up.

They're actually pretty easy to find. I'll give ya the link to the video I used, but you have to remember. You have to do the levels in Normal, and you have to start them from the beginning.

I just got the "IWHBYD" skull with my friend, but it was on his XBOX, pity. I'll have to make him do it again for me on my XBOX Razz

The only problem I had with getting it was that I had to do the entire level, which took about a half hour. After killing all the flood and the prophet, jumping through the rings was pretty quick and easy.

One thing I would have liked to see, since bungie did say you'd finish every fight you started in H1, would have been the Arbiter as a final boss, but I guess Spark'll have to do, despite how easily you can beat him. I loved the End sequence with the hog, much better than the Autumn one. I think that the Covenent went out with a fizz, it would have been nice to take Truth on and fight him yourself.
Now I wonder what it would take for bungie to make new Halo fps games...
