The vignette entry I'm working on for the christmasification contest is a Star Wars Nativity scene.
I may change some of the details and parts of the staging of the scene before I shoot the contest photos, but I'm nearly finished and pretty much locked on the concept of the scene. I think any changes now is primarily going to be about how to best show all the details with only two pics.

pic 3

What do you think?

I love it! This picture would be great for an overall picture of the whole vignette, and then maybe you could just take a close up of the figures. I'd love to see more pictures of this!

I love almost everything about this - Very funny!!

I'm not crazy about the star, though. Perhaps you can make it out of lightsabers instead? (I'd go for the trans-neon green ones).

Genius! Very clever idea and the baby Luke and Leia in a helmet are a great move.
I would have Yoda in the scene somewhere, perhaps as the angel, and I agree about changing the star.

Dang it, I was going to do this! Ah well, it'd probably look like crap.

This is really good. The stable is really well-built, the character assignment is clever, and overall this is simply fantastic. Great job!

This is pretty sweet.

Although everytime I look at the sword in the sky, I think "incoming ballistic missile" before I think anything else.

Thanks for all the nice comments.

And yes, maybe the sword is a bit odd in this mix.

But the weird looking star/sword is in fact one of my favorite details, and for me it plays an important part by not being Star Wars themed.

I wanted a good balance between the SW and the traditional. The stable, the crib, the palm tree and the star is meant to serve as the framework of a traditional nativity scene that deceives the viewer at the first glance.

Having the familiar surrounding the funny stuff in the middle kind of give the scene a nice focus, I think.

Maybe the sword to some people doesen't look like a star at all, but I like the simplicity of this single non lego looking piece in gold pointing down to the important stuff. The only regret I have is that the sword doesn't look golden and shiny in the picture. I'll see if i can make it shine in the final pic.

Why not? I didn't want to have too much meaning in the choices of characters and their roles. No hidden reliogous messages and I wanted to be fairly rough on the canonical SW stuff. The Joke is about the two babies. The other characters are placed there as random SW references that fits in nicely with the original story of the nativity. It was also important to have a good mix with humans, masked figures, aliens and a robot. The trooper is mostly chosen because his colors match the grey wings. Wink

And by the way. In my final contest pic the star is as shiny as it should have been all along.

Edit: Removed the nice typo made fun of right below. That was funny!

I'd like a religious massage.

In all seriousness, it's a great vig, and I like the star.

That's really really cute! I love how you've worked in everything: the shepherds, the wise men and the angels. The bounty hunters bringing gifts made me laugh especially hard. Some very smart building solutions there too, and I like how textured the floor is.
