Seeing how we've had many prequel-bashing threads, I thought we'd have one that appreciated the good that came out of the prequels.
Things I can think of:
-Darth Maul
-Jango Fett
-Clones
-Starships
What else did you like about the Prequels? |

Ewan Mcgregor!
pod-racers! - not to mention the technology jump that they made in doing the pod race.
Mace Windu! - hey come on, Sam Jackson just kicks butt!
Christopher Lee in yet another powerfully evil role!
the Return of Frank Oz as Yoda!
many very smart links to the old prequel (the triangular symbol shapes used in many of the republic ships to lead to the Imperial ships)

-Episode 3 in general
-the battle of Geonosis
-all the lightsaber duels
-Anakin vs Obi wan (it gets it's own section cause it was awsome)
-The clones
-Samual L. Jackson!!!
-Ewan Mcgregor
-some pretty cool ships (mostly clone ships)
-Jango Fett
-General Grievous (though his fight was rather, short lived, I still liked his character, shame they couldn't give him justice in the movie)
-Anakin burning and becoming Vader
-Obi Wan vs Jango (not space)
-Order 66
-Aayla Secura (*drools*)
there are other good things, but thats the ones I could think up off the top of my head. _________________

Nice positive spin. It'll probably still frustrate the dickens out of me to acknowledge the lost potential, but in the spirit of the thread:
lightsabers (TPM sabers' actual physical appearance looked sleek and sexy compared to the boxy 70s models)
lightsaber duals
Darth Maul
ships/vehicles
scenery (Naboo and Utapau in particular) _________________ Hail Brains!

All of what Draykov said
The Pod Racing
Jake Lloyd didn't reprise his role in AotC
Much of the architecture, and many of the new ship designs
How they showed many of the roots of of the OT ships (even if it was unneeded)
SLJ BAMF
Choreography
Geonosis and the chaos that ensued
Much of the humour that wasn't intended
Kitt Fisto and most of the new Jedi, I particularly liked Coleman Trebor, shame he died.
Qui Gon Jin being one of the coolest characters, Liam Neeson helped TPM so much.
The droids in TPM being own'd in more ways than should be possible. Three cheers for Obi Wan jump kicking two and cutting one in half and still letting it's legs strut their stuff.
E.T. How can you not love him, let alone three.
Choreography
That's a fair list I think _________________

Pretty much everyone already stole all of mine. I liked the prequels. I want to bring up Clones again because they are probably the best part of the prequels. _________________ Am I the only one who sometimes comes here, logs in, and fools around?

They spawned three Clone Wars cartoon movies, which are all action-packed.
Anakin never actually turned to the dark side. He was tricked, duped by a manipulator who preyed on Anakin's impatience and fear. Anakin fell to the dark side. He didn't turn.
Even though it ended badly, we got to see dozens of lightsabers flashing in a big arena. Those images hint at an age where the Jedi are both galaxy-wide peacekeepers and a disorganized martial organization, caught between diplomatic and military duties.
That "age where Jedi are galaxy-wide" has been chronicled a little by easy reader novels.
Dogfights in episode III...
The idea of Episode I was good. In the Old Republic, Jedi get deployed as diplomats. They mediate things. They're smart. _________________ 2nd-hand LittleArmory|brickshelf|FLICKR

-the ARC-170
-a real space battle
-masterful duels
-Dooku: a good political operator (see his conversation with Obi-Wan in E2) who still gets played by Palpatine
-Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan's relationship
-most of all: the completion of Anakin's story arc from childhood loneliness and pain through betrayal and manipulation to redemption and family (have to watch 1-6 in order to catch it) |

All positives have already been stated. So, to add:
-Wayne Pygram as Tarkin at the end of ROTS. Quite possibly to be in the live action TV show after his stint on Farscape.
-The actual political message. Even though it was lost on many people it was a perfect portrayal of what happens in the waning of a democracy transitioning to a dictatorship. Thank you Ceaser.
-Magna Droids and Droideka
-The artistic themes from Geonosis repeated on the Death Star and the fact that Geonosis was the weapons manufacturer.
-The slaughter of the CIS leaders by Vader.

There's only a few things I like about the prequels...
- the Battle droids ( especially the B1's)
- epic battle scenes
- General Grievous ( of course )
- We now know what the clone wars was
- MTT's!
Thats it for me. _________________

While Jango sucked less than his son, he still was barely a cool blip. I mean, he acted all big and bad, yet Mace whipped him like an amish schoolboy trying to play football.
Darth Maul was cool, I'll give that one, but killed too easily. He would have been a far cooler villain spread across the PT. Dooku wasn't bad, but he wasn't really all that evil. Palpy... pure evil, but underused. But also not a surprise in the slightest that he was a bad guy.
Padme. Not her dialog, or those stupid outfits, but Natalie Portman is hot.
Other than that... here and there, but nothing is considered cool next to how cool the OT was. It's just flashy. _________________ Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe. - Albert Einstein |

Thanks, dWhisper, I was shocked reading this thread and no one mentioned Natalie Portman until you did. Unfortunately, she went from cool fighting queen heroine in the first to frolicking Sound of Music la la in the second leading up to useless "You're breaking my heart" submissive wimp in the third.
Best of PT: Natalie Portman in TPM
I also like McGregor and Jackson. And a lot of other stuff. _________________ I'm no zombie |

The coolest thing about the prequels:
George Lucas got the world to care about Star Wars again and built a fan base from a whole new generation. _________________

And how could he not have done that with the OT? There were no Star Wars fans made between 84 and 99?
And Portman was at her best in Clone Wars (you know, when she was legal)... _________________ Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe. - Albert Einstein |

Neither of those in bold were in the Prequel Trilogy, only the cartoons _________________

Ah, but they came about THROUGH the prequels for which reason I enjoy the prequels.
And the CW is technically in the prequels becuase it's... In the prequels. |

Technically, you're wrong. The Clone Wars as an event is in the prequels. The current TV show is not in the prequels- it's its own media. While it is set during what is known as "the prequel era," that merely describes its timeframe, not the thing you need to watch to see it.
However, you are correct that the prequels allowed the existence of the Clone Wars animations. |

Ah, I see now. The prequels are from Valorum's Chancellorship to Qui-gon's death, then a pause, then from the beginning of the assassination attempts on Amidala to her marriage to Anakin, then a pause, then from the Battle of Coruscant to the birth of the twins. |

C80, if you want to be technical, the last part would end with the passing of Luke from Obi-Wan to Beru and Lars.

Actually, I'd consider the cartoons part of the prequels because it is set before the OT, but I can see why people might not consider it because its not specifically one of the the three live-action prequel films. |

Heh, prequel trilogy:
-A nine day pregnancy
-Leia remembering her mother in episode 6, even thoiugh she only had a few minuets with her
-The "jedi puge" left a hell of a lot of jedi, and that numbers still growing, and probably will untill the numbers that survived order 66 will be greater than the number of jedi before the purge, i perfered it when obie wan and yoda were the only jedi left.
-The massive amount of prequel EU _________________ All your brains are belong to us. |

Nine days is the minimum length of ROTS. It could be anywhere from nine to thirty days. Consider that Padme was already quite a bit pregnant and was hiding it for her job, along with the likelyhood of it being premature, that isn't hard to believe.
I must agree with you on the Jedi though. It seems that any Jedi we didn't see die survived. That has really dripped into the OT EU stuff - the prequels heavy usage of Jedi has lead to a wish to have that everywhere. _________________
