As seen on Eurobricks and Flicker, at least some of the Pirates sets have been spotted at the Imagination Center at Walt Disney World.

Yahoo! What is the "Imagination Center"? Is it part of the LEGO store or something else?

Yes! I've been a fan of the Pirates line lately, and I've been trying to reconstruct a Black Sea's Barracuda set for a while, and these guys will make the perfect enemies! Also, the notion of getting some British soldiers after seeing the Bricklink prices is fantastic.

Also, if this picture rings true, then it looks like LEGO's bringing back the shooting canon! Yeah!

Wow, that was a lot quicker than I expected. I wonder if they will be available everywhere shortly, or if these were put out a bit too early.
Either way, it excites me to see them obtainable so soon. Smile

The prices aren't that bad either...I was expecting CW prices. I might actually get a couple small ones. As good as these look, they still don't come close to the old ones.

For the past few months I've been wondering how these will affect the prices of the old sets....I ended up getting most of the old ones anyway but it will be interesting.

To anyone that happens to have an older shooting cannon, how exacty does it work? Do you pull on the knob at the back to shoot the brick out, or is it done some other way?

And, ThinkingImpaired, why would you expect CW prices? Clone Wars is a liscensed theme, so naturally the prices would go up. (Oh, and where did you see the prices for the sets?)

Yep, exactly. Load a 1x1 cylinder in the front, pull on the back stubby bit, release it, and *PEWM!*. It's spring-loaded.

Possibly, but now that they're "officially out," we can talk about them without violating the RtB policy. Rolling Eyes

Anyways, as much as I like the idea of Pirates sets, part of me wonders if their re-release is in response to Megablok's Pirates of the Caribean line. It also seems like its a day late and a dollar short, as well. Wouldn't LEGO have been better off releasing these in the hay-days of the PotC films? Sure, they wouldn't have be connected directly to the films (they wouldn't have the franchise rights), but they could have pulled it off by claiming they've released them in the past and were simply looking the re-vitalize the theme, such as they are doing now. And really, which would a child prefer at Christmas: a crappy Megabloks "official" Pirates set or an awesome LEGO Pirates set? Very Happy

For shooting cannons, you pull and release the knob to fire.

All of Star Wars is licensed...so to see a hike up to CW from regular SW prices, I was just wondering if all new Legos would be just as expensive. Prices were mentioned on the Eurobricks thread.

So you don't have to go looking through the Eurobricks thread, here are the believed prices that SirNadroj posted there:

Quote:
$3.49 (impulses)
$5.99 (cannon)
$9.99 (kraken)
$19.99 (island)
$39.99 (shipwreck)
$49.99 (port)
$99.99 (ship)

I think those are the prices; or close to that.

*Cries tears of joy*

My childhood years were filled with many pirate adventures. I knew these sets were coming for ages (I'd seen the pre-release pics) and really wanted the shooting cannon to return. To have my hopes confirmed is just awesome. Mr. Green

I don't understand how they thought it was a safety hazard back then but not now....but it's awesome they're using the same mold.

I think it's because the "cannonballs" now have a hole through them, kind of like the minifig heads do now. Thus, the choking hazard is minimized.

Perhaps toy safety guidelines changed allowing it to resume production.

All I know is that my first cannon was non firing, and If I had known they could fire, that would have bummed me out.

I am most excited about the return of the Shako.

It's too bad the new shakos aren't all black like the old ones....prices on bricklink for the old ones are absolutely crazy.

Yes, but I'm pretty sure the price will drop a little as demand shifts to the new colorful Shako's.

Regarding the cannons in the past: I have both firing and non-firing cannons. The reason I have both is because I bought Lego sets in several continents when I was younger. All of my firing cannons came from Germany, all of my non-firing cannons came from the US. (Lego's policy at the time.) Apparently firing cannons were too dangerous for American children.

Mofo: the cannon balls pieces look to be the same. 1x1 cylinders have always had holes through them since the the 90s, at least.

I figured not, but I hit up all the usual stores today and none had any Pirates. Wishful thinking. Wink

(EDIT-) Posts over at TBB are reporting that the sets should be appearing "a few days before Thanksgiving".

If you don't mind paying shipping, you can call the TLG Imagination Center in Orlando (the only place where these sets are available right now) and they'll send them to you.

I'm not looking at it, but you're probably referring to the new telescope piece.

I really liked the pirate sets I got back in the early-mid 90s, and ever since the POTC trilogy, I've really wanted to get some new LEGO pirates. This is the first (upcoming) theme I'm really excited for in a while, even after seeing the images.

It could be used as one, but it is actually a new torch element.

I have firing cannons in my old collection - all from UK sets. I don't know if they were ever switched for non-firing ones (due to Health & Safety). But back then, the world wasn't so Health & Safety conscious. Rolling Eyes Laughing

Just to let you know, I was up at LEGOLAND Windsor yesterday, no pirates there yet. As I expected, but still...

I don't think shooting cannons posed a choking hazard. Remember, it's the cannon's shooting aspect that was removed, not the cannonballs.

I think they were scared of kids getting shot in the eye.

I'm still shocked that they brought back shooting cannons, especially in the litigious US market. But I'm not complaining! Smile

I have a shooting cannon and mostly nonfiring cannons. Frankly, those ubiquitous firing cannons that were in practically every Alpha Team and Batman set are far more powerful and hazardous, IMO. So it shouldn't be that much of a shock that times have changed regarding firing/nonfiring cannons in the U.S.
