Has anyone here sold or bought a MOC on ebay? Was it a decent success? Would you do it again or try it in the future?

Bought/Sold? - Yes to both

Success? - I guess so. Its not extremely profitable - especially given the amount of work that goes into the process - but it does generate some extra funds to put towards the hobby. I suppose if you mass-produced mocs on a grand scale, it could be profitable - but you could make alot more money just buying sets at discounted prices, holding them for a little while, and then reselling at a slight profit.

Try again? - Sure would.

A lot of people have sold MY mods on ebay or bricklink but I haven't done it personally. I doubt it was especially profitable. I designed one or two mocs specifically to sell as a one shot thing but then I got too attached to them and never did it.

I have definately tried to sell MOCS on ebay, just to bring in funds to buy more lego, because as you may have seen on our previous postings of MOC dioramas, we have a MASSIVE!!!! Endor scene, and HOTH scene and Tatooine, and Trench Run, and many more.

I actually have built Guy's Tie, because I loved it that much, and constructed an X-Wing of similiar scale to have in large numbers flying through the Trench, and I also have almost completed a same scale Y-Wing, to assist the pesky rebels. I am primarily putting these enormous scenes (approx 10 feet x 4 feet) wide scenes together because my love of Star Wars Lego, and my very very young son will hopefully soon share the same love... especially when he realizes there is an entire basement of a world of imagination that awaits him when he gets older.

But to answer your question, it is definately not profitable. Timewise, seller fees, shipping fees, Lego costs, mean we have actually lost money on so so many items I can't remember, especially because of seller fees which eat away just about all the profit. If you are wanting to make money, but Lego sets, then resell them later, its far more profitable.

You do realise Ebay charges an insertion %, then a final value %, then Paypal charges a % fee, and a conversion %, add all that together, and Ebay/Paypal, are the ones that make the profit, not the seller.

The best sales I have had is people who pay me to build something they specifically want, and its actually fun to do this, and I love this a lot more.
