Everyone, please, read the "Respect the Brick" policy or GTFO. Seriously.

We all know this is still in effect so don't even bother trying to circumvent it unless you want to get booted for a day. I'm just throwing a reminder out there for the new people who might not understand it and who'll be confused when they can't log in for some unknown reason after absentmindedly posting a link or referencing something they shouldn't.

You don't have to like it, or agree to it, but you still have to follow it if you want to post here. We've been over this hundreds of times and the horse is rotting in the corner. Thanks for your time.

You had me fooled.

To tell you the truth, when I saw this thread, I assumed someone new posted it. Felt a little shocked that it was you, Don.

You forgot the people who decide what to buy before they actually know what it is. Laughing Anyhow, if you aren't sure about something, it's always best to PM a staff member and ask about it. Smile

And here I was thinkin' the staff had gone and got us official set names and stuff Sad . Oh well. A very nice trick, and gets the point across.

When I saw this I was like Oh great, this one'll get locked within minutes. Then I noticed the author: Don Solo. I thought hmm, this is weird. So I looked at it. Great way to grab people's attention, Don.

Actually it might have been nice if for some years Lego DIDN'T come out with 'new' sets. and just continued to offer old sets. That way it might give some people a chance to actually CATCH UP on sets they still need for their collection.

Heck, for the SW theme alone, if you want to consistently stay completely caught up on every new set that comes out that would mean spending easily $500-1000 per year, every year. That's actually quite a lot of money.

That's why people steal sets from kids at Christmas.

Or you know, not have to buy every one of them. (But where's the fun in that?)

Well, for the people like me who have to get them all (except the Twilight is an exception, I can pass on that one) I just spend my summer cutting grass, get the summer sets, and the the January sets are for Christmas, but then once I come to the real world and get a job, it might not be so easy Wink

But anyway, I don't see why it is so hard for some people to comprehend the RTB policy, its not that hard. Unless LEGO realeases the info, DON'T POST IT, its that simple, or like previously stated, do some searching and asking first, to see if it is leaked.

You think you feel cheated? Here I am, clicking to read what I have to do to collect these over two thousand sets Don just promised, and what do I find? Nothing but admonitions! Don, you obstinate jerk! You owe me 2,009 LEGO sets! Evil or Very Mad Razz

The discussions around here will be weird for a while if we can't refer to the pics circulating out there everywhere!

Not like Respect the Brick is a new rule or anything, so I'd have to say that the discussions will be the same as they've always been.

I'm leaning towards hate.

Well la-de-da. So do most of us. The rule remains about discussing or sharing that here. It's not about hiding the information, that's impossible in the divine light of Almighty Google, it's about the standard we hold ourselves to not to perpetuate it here.

Perhaps it has been asked before, but I was wondering if FBTB still has the contacts with Lego which made the official FBTB scoops possible in the past?

In the past, I think FBTB most recently had scoops with the 6206 TIE Interceptor and the 6207 A-Wing, and perhaps the 6209 Slave I (not sure about that one), but since then, no sets have been 'premiered' on FBTB, I believe...

I know the RTB policy goes beyond just staying in Lego's favor for these exclusives, but it always felt good when FBTB did showcase a new set!

I think the January 2006 wave was the only group of sets to premiere on FBTB. We still have other perks though. Steve still pops in when he can and we had Jake before him. Having an actual LEGO rep among your active members is no small thing.

Also, lets not forget the exclusive chat we had where we decided what next years exclusive should contain. There's a reason LEGO picked us over other similar fan sites.

There were others, but they go further back. Back around 2000/2001/2002, FBTB routinely had official information and pics for upcoming sets before anywhere else online. But you're right, there are other perks to a good relationship with LEGO. I personally find the Ask LEGO section and the chat Don mentioned to be much more useful than the old twice a year product announcements.
