what the hell?! Why would they do that?!

I wonder if those that pre-ordered at 199.99 are getting it for that price?!

I hadn't done so because I don't have that kind of cash right now, but for an extra 75 it's just not worth it, so I will probably end up not buying. Talk about TLG shooting themselves in the foot.

It's the same with me. I was considering getting it at 200, but I definitely won't be at 275.

this would be really interesting to know.

I don't think I will get it for 400 Euro. Maybe I change my mind if I ever have too much money in my account or decide to sacrifice all the other SW Sets for affording this, but else it's just not worth so much. I had expected something around 350, the 300 would have been cool, but 400 - no.

Harsh... But I guess the previous price of 299,- was very cheap. Luckily I had it pre-ordered on the day it came out, so I guess I'm getting it for that price. Shop@Home's Order Status page doesn't work properly right now, so I can only see my last order, which is the discount 6211 Star Destroyer. So I can't be entirely sure Evil or Very Mad

I will...
I have to say, I do have the confirmation e-mail from S@H with the old price so I guess I can hold them to that, but to be honest, I am very slightly worried...

I've already replied to this post but I find myself doing it again - sadly. Anakin, you're now 110 away from getting that set. I feel really sorry for you. Confused I can't believe Lego have done this! Shocked My only question is: Why? Question

Still gonna go after it? Neutral

Good thing it's still 400$ in America! Wink

I'm shocked that LEGO would so something like this. For those of you who preoordered it, I would get together on this and write LEGO a letter complaining to them. That might get you what you deserve.

i feel bad for you european lego fans -- what a bummer...

i think lego should at least honor the original preorder price that was advertised, and ideally they would say, "okay, we have to raise the price because of unforseen expense increases or whatever, so until xxxx date, we will honor the initial price we advertised, blah blah" something like that would smooth things over with consumers i would think...

at this point though, it sounds like someone fell asleep at the wheel. a company as big as lego should not have "mistakes" like this take place...

Confused

While I agree that an official statement from LEGO explaining the price increase might help to calm things down, I do not understand all this fuss about existing preorders.

If you have an order confirmation stating a price of 299 then LEGO legally has no choice but to either provide the article at the agreed price or to completely cancel your order (claiming they cannot fulfill it). There is no way that they can force you to pay the higher price if you preordered at the lower price.

With the future "Clone Wars" sets to come, we have to wait a hypothetic sale on the new Death Star in Europe, now, like the UCS SSD. Maybe in 2-3 years the Death Star price will decrease to 300 ...?

I don't know if it's psycological or financial, but I don't feel ready to afford 1 Death Droid and 2 Death Star troopers for 400 now... Crying or Very sad

Damned Europeans sucking operation!

I can't remember TLC ever making a UCS Super Star Destroyer, let alone one which was on sale. Perhaps you mean the SSD included with the UCS Death Star?

All kidding aside, let's be fair, when we first learned about the 10188 Death Star we all were expecting a price of 399,- anyhow. The set is big enough to warrant such a price.

I guess we should just get over it; we all know that we are happy enough when TLC shows it does listen to the fans when it comes to a lot of new SW stuff that comes out (Sand Crawler, motorized At-AT, the fan poll sets...).

Yeah, ISD, not SSD.

Anyway, I'm sure that this disappointment will spoil the initial happyness there, wether some of us are happy to pay 400 rather than 300 .

I pre-ordered at 199, my account status is still showing the order at the original price...
I'm hoping S@H will honour that price...
Sadly, I don't think I can engage my trust circuits even though I printed the checkout page and have the order confirmation e-mail.
Obviously I'll have a huge tantrum if I find my order updated with the new price and in that unhappy circumstance I would definitely cancel the order....

...I might even stop collecting Lego and storm off in a huff!

Come on LEGO, do the right thing, put the price back down, your European fans will love you for it!

The Lego Ambassador Mahjqa seems to have had contact with Steve Witt who has given an explaination (of sorts) for the sudden price raise.
Quote:
I checked into this today and reality is that they just listed the prices wrong initially. it wasn't meant to be a promotion, it was just a mistake. They now have the prices where they were supposed to be from the beginning. The reasons for the differences across borders are the same as they always are in that the cost of business in every country is drastically different from one another.
I do agree that its a bummer the way it happened, but this is more inline with the way pricing works on every other set across the board.

Linky Sorry, site is mostly in Dutch...

Oh well... I guess this answer fits in perfectly with the post I made previously: the new price is the one we expected all along and a price which, although it is expensive, does match with the size of the set.

This is what I think: the ones who did pre-order in time will get the set at the 'discount' price, as we did get the order confirmation. In this regard, the term 'confirmation' is quite important, as it implies a reached agreement / contract about product AND price between buyer (us) and seller (TLC).
A one-sided change by the seller, just because the seller wants to change the price, does not make any earlier reached agreements about price and product any less legally binding. And this change in price is not a legally strong enough reason to cancel the order by TLC; it would take something much more drastic to legally allow a breach of contract (like for example, TLC going bankrupt).

I also just checked my order status page (which seems to be back in working order after I had to notify S@H), and my order is also still standing at the original price of 299, so no problems there for those who ordered early.

However, I am slightly irked by the fact that they did make a change in my order of the discounted 7211 ISD, which I ordered when it was on back-order until the 22nd of October, but which will now be dispatched on the 24th of November!

UCS SSD!

Ok, not really, but one could dream. This is one built by the SW project team in 2001.

Back on topic. Was anything stated regarding US pricing? Just curious.

Well buying it with my own money was the only option as my parents refuse to buy me Lego unless its with pocket money and after I seen the rise I just said screw it, bought LEGO Indy on 360 and spent nearly 15 on Pauldrons and Kama's.

So no Death Star for me but I've seen a cheap Flesh Ben Kenobi going so I'l snap that up as "my little bit" of 250+ sets Razz

This is a massive kick in the teeth. If Lego haven't issued any sort of statement explaining the change, they should be ashamed of themselves. Bad, bad form.

Do you think it could be a lot cheaper getting all the pieces from Bricklink?

Well, I have most of the figs, who cares if they are yellow or flesh and Vader is Vader, doesn't matter which torso decal. And instructions should be available to download by Lego soon.

I don't know if anyone else has seen or posted this announcement from eurobricks...

Steve has apparently made a statement somewhere (I can't find the original post that the quote came from) that basically says the 199 price was a mistake...
it also says that S@H are intending to honour the original price for those that ordered before that error was noticed.

I hope this is correct, but I see no reason to doubt the information.
