Two more days, and a few reminders for everyone:

1) Presentation counts. Bad pictures can get a good model eliminated from competition. The same goes for posting a tiny picture
2) Links to pictures will not be considered in the voting. You need to post 1 picture of your MOC, 1 picture of the Source Material. The link is for anyone reading the thread.
3) You can make changes up to the deadline, but once we lock it, that's it. We'll be saving the pictures to the FBTB Flickr group to prevent "aftermarket" changes.

QFE. We've talked and there are a handful we think have a pretty good build but the submitted picture isn't very impressive. Everyone, make sure the entry image you go with is the best you can come up with and shows your model at it's full potential. It will definitely increase your chance of making the first round selection before the poll is created.

I worked up the measurements on a minifig scale star destroyer once. I think it was like 300m or something like that.

Stats! I love stats. Looks like 61 entries with 5 exempts, still makes 56 viable entries.

one might wonder at which vehicle was the most popular to recreate.

looks like a three way tie with

5 A wings
5 landspeeders (and one flashspeeder)
5 AT ST walkers (and one scout walker)
next was the Naboo fighter with 4 renditions
the Slave I, skiff, Jedistarfighter and X wing all had 3 models each

Looking over all the entries is astounding.....some real tremendous creations, and a great enough concept for a whole new line!

A big round of applause for the creators of the contest (as well as whoever footed the bill for the prizes) Looks like a very tough job to widdle the list down to five. It also seems this contest has opened the FBTB newbie gates.....for better or for worse. Twisted Evil

Why does it say "Runners up" and "Finalists Announced"?
am I missing something?

Apparently yes... as stated from the start, we selected the top entries and those will be put into poll form for you all to vote on soon. The "runners up" thread is all of the other entries that didn't make it past the first round of judging.

I too would like to echo Monsterbrick's sentiments. This is a great contest and there were many fantastic builds all around. I was even very pleased to see some kids participate. A round of applause is indeed in order for everyone. Very Happy

It's tough. Getting good shots of my MOCs drives me nuts. The key is lots of light. If you can, take your setup and your backdrop outside and shoot in full sunlight. Some of the best photos I have seen were taken in this way. I have large stationary indoor MOC that is hard to light. I am considering purchasing a cheap lighting kit just so I can get good pics.

I think I had trouble with capturing all the detail in one shot (which is impossible). It was a hard model to capture the essence in one shot, and also when I shrunk it, it lost a lot of quality.

^It's not about how many lego bricks you have, it's about how you use them.

Congratulations to all who made the first cut, and a general "wow" to everyone who entered. "Amazing work" barely covers what everyone achieved.

Personally, I'm glad for the contest since it introduced me to these forums.

That said, (and with clearance from dWhisper), I'd like to invite you guys to keep the steam going...

As a follow-up Steampunk challenge, I'm asking for builds using 50 items or lless - perfect for those of us with smaller collections (or who used up almost all their brown tiles in the Steam Wars challenge.)

Click the picture, or click here to read all about it.

Hope to see you there!

Though I disagree with a few of the finalists (mainly becasue I'm not among them) Wink , this contest is great for so many reasons. It inspired me to make something different. It created a lot of buzz for this site and we got plenty of new members. We got to see the creative output for dozens of builders with all different approaches and styles.

Even with a good chunk of the entries eliminated, it was a tough choice to vote for the best, so I just picked my favorite.

Absolutely. Daylight is best for taking pictures. Unfortunately I have a day job and it's rained here for the past 34 days...

Still... the contest made me sign up here and it also inspired me to build something way outside my normal themes.
I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for future contests.

I wanted to follow-up on what Motian was talking about over in the entries thread...

Motian the Hutt wrote:
Am I just dim-witted, or have other peeps had this problem as well? If so, mebbe the voting should be more obvious or mandatory.

It's not just you– I think the fact that there've been multiple threads for this contest (main, discussion, runner-ups, finalists, voting) has made it a bit trickier to keep track of. The idea behind them makes sense, but in particular I thought creating the two runner-ups and finalists threads from already-existing threads was confusing. It makes sense why they were split that way, but the multitude of threads for the contest, to me anyway, makes it hard to keep track of what's what.

I see it's there now, but the lack of a main page update for a fews days about voting probably contributed to the "it's started?" feel.

Thankee for the support, Morgan. And thank you too, Don, for agreeing to a nice big announcement near the end. Good turnout so far, though, voting-wise.
