I believe you press Ctrl-I in Windows Media Player at that specific time and it will save a bitmap frame.

Well, I gave up on installing portal, and switched it over to a compy with internet access. It's working perfectly now.

*EDIT* All is not well with Portal anymore. Does anyone know what Geforce edition is required for portal? series six isn't working...

Works perfectly on a GeForce 6600GT here; Valve say the min spec is a DirectX 8 capable card - that's a Geforce 4200 or better. Recommended spec is a DirectX 9 capable card - that's all GeForce 5xxx or better cards.

Try reinstalling DirectX 9 & latest nvidia card drivers - your GeForce 6xxx card should work fine.

Andi - I assume you're using the default Gnome user interface ? Check what keyboard identity has been set - often it defaults to a US keyboard layout, which will be different from a German or UK layout. I've found this is usually the problem - I've even found Linux applications in the past that will only take inputs from a keyboard with a US ident !

It's ubuntu server with later installed xubuntu desktop for having a GUI.
But even when the GUI is not started, the @ does not work.
The layout says German, and general 105 (intl) keyboard
Everything else like works fine only the @ does not work.

What about other combinations with AltGr, such as [], {}, \ or ~ ? Do they work?

Usually the AltGr key can be configured as various different types of "Meta" key, which changes what effect it has in combination with other keys.

What happens if you try Ctrl + Alt instead of AltGr? I.e. for @ use Ctrl+Alt+Q.

Oh, those letters do not work as well.
And the combination ctrl-alt- does not work too.

Never thought I'd have to ask any tech questions.

Anyways this is more directed at those who have Macs or are atleast knowledgeable about them.

My problem or well question is do I have to worry about spyware on my Mac? Before yesterday I wouldn't have worried about this, but when I went to another forum site I frequent an pop up showed up for something called Vista AntiVirus 2008. I know it's spyware and such after googling it. Didn't really think about it much. Today when I went back to that same site I successfully browsed for a good minute and a half before that same darn pop up came back. I repeated to make sure it was this site and indeed it is. Every time this pop up shows it closes my current window and I have to force quite safari to get rid of it.

Do I have to worry about my Mac being infected by spyware? I honestly am not really sure what to do except call Apple. I want to be able to go back to this site without having to deal with this.

Thanks.

Isn't there one included with Windows?
Not sure though how easy and good it is.

I don't think so. There's Movie Maker, but that would be no good for SM.

Hey Guys, I've got another question for you.
What is a good animation program? not stopmotion, but an animation software. I'm looking at 3ds max, but is there one someone would recommend?

Hey guys, I have a virus question...

I've really just started to notice that every time I go on the Internet, basically when I load a page, a pop-up comes up, some about dating, others pornography, general advertisements for products/locations of some sort, or commonly a "anti virus system". Its been like this for a few days, and I have run AVG, Ad-Watch 3.0, Ad-ware 6.0, and Spybot S&D. (All came with the computer except AVG.) I use IE to further clarify any questions.

After multiple scans, I still come up with nothing. So I'm wondering, is it even a virus? If it is, what could it be, and what could I do? If it isn't whats wrong with my Internet?

Do you know how to disable startup menu items? Try launching msconfig and see if there are any suspicious entries there. Also, check your task manager and google each process running. You might spot one that turns out to be some sort of malware. Also worth a shot is restoring the system to an earlier date - just make sure you know when it started and go before that.

Ya, I have a a little guide for myself about deleting start up stuff so I'll try that first. I'm not exactly sure on how to restore it to a earlier date, so I'll check out that on google or something.

Ok I've just about lost it with these problems I'm getting on my desktop computer. I keep getting these random errors with programs crashing and something about Memory not being written with error codes that look like 0x04c60000 for example. I get the blue screen of death every now and then that talks about these memory issues and I can't figure out what's wrong. I had installed another gig of ram earlier in the summer and thought it was a problem with that and everything looks fine, computer even recognizes the extra gig. I'm also thinking I might have a virus as some of my settings are always reset after every reboot including having windows pop up saying that the screensaver couldn't boot up because there was a error Neutral

I'm on the verge of just reformatting the damn thing.

That's a whole lot of nonspecific issues dude. Try out that bit I said above...

and see if you might have anything nasty running in the background. Install and run AVG and Sbybot S&D (get them through cnet.com to be safe) and if all that fails look into a registry checker.

But, before that, I'd say now is as good a time as any to backup all your important files in case you do have a virus or worse.

Yep I've ran AVG, Spybot, AdAware, and WindowsCare over and over again. Haven't seen any suspicious processes running, even looked up the ones I wasn't sure about and nothing looks wrong. I'll probably just backup my media and reformat.

When I've had similar problems in the past, 9 times out 10 the problem can be solved by simply cracking the case open, carefully pulling out the RAM & any expansion cards, & then reseating them. This cleans the contacts & usually solves the problem.

I used to have a lab with around 50 PCs & SGI workstations; at least one machine a week would suffer this way, but it was usually easy to solve.

That would be my suggestion too. Remove all RAM, then put it back in piece for piece. Could be that your old RAM does not like the new one or contacts got disturbed while putting the new one in.

Try the prior suggestions - reset your computer to restore point before you started having trouble and use msconfig to disable all non critical things... or try what bluemoose said and try try resting the hardware.

These days if your not a computer expert...you have to call someone who is. Out of my experience, when ever I try to fix technology problems...I tend to make matters worse.

We have tried restoring the computer several times, as well as restarting it (like three times a day because the icons and 'Start' bar at the bottom dissapear after a few hours of being turned on), and every time it returns to its previous state of retardedness. I just remembered though, one of my aunt's friends is sort of our family's 'geek squad', and my mom said she's going to try and get her over to take a look at our computer for us.

By the way, sorry about the other thread. Since I was on my dad's cell phone, it wouldn't download anything very well and I was kind of impatient at the time so I guess I didn't think about taking the time to find the tech thread. Embarassed

As a last ditch resort you can always completly wipe your computer, restoring it to the factory defaults. Although you shouldn't try that until you run out of options, as it will cause you to lose everything on the computer.

Or try and backup whatever data you can if you can still access your files.

Hmmm... I'm still suffering with my problem even after running plenty of anti virus programs, and trying to reset to an earlier date. I check my start-up programs but I wasn't sure what was what, and I didn't want to accidentally delete something.

The 2 times I tried to restore to an earlier date, it always said it wasn't possible to complete the process.

Any Ideas? Confused
