Jeez, how old was your previous computer? BSOD? Surprised

I got an extra computer in my family's living room, running on Windows '95. Love it, soooo great for Brood War. Very Happy

Heh, it's a 2 year old Emachine that was never meant for gaming. But I got me a starter gaming computer from Dell that I intend to upgrade over time.

Oh, btw, the GH: WT Music Studio is difficult to use, but full of win. I really can't see why people like Rock Band. I mean, look at it this way: I was skeptical about getting a Guitar Hero-ified drum set at first, but I've come to see it as an upgrade over the non-cymbal Rock Band drums. They are reactive and fun, and the cymbal and high-hat are enjoyable, and not difficult, to use. I don't want to start a fight, but what is so great about Rock Band 2? Yeah, yeah, tons of songs. But seriously, besides that? The graphics are cool and streamlined, but what about the gameplay? Mediocre at best. (The square notes tick me off too.) Anywho, what has RB2 done to bring music gaming to the NEXT LEVEL?

The music studio is not full of win, unless all of your favourite songs are ringtones. The gameplay is pretty much the same, and I feel that squares work better for drums. Here's a list from the group on facebook:

Reasons Why Rock Band 2 Is Better
1. A better interface. The position of the Star Power meter on Guitar Hero World Tour is just plain disgusting.
2. Pooling Star Power is stupid. Why should someone be able to steal my hard earned Star Power?
3. DLC. Harmonix comes out with new DLC every week, adding up to a maximum of 500, that's right, 500 tracks by the holidays.
4. The position of the Star Power meter in Guitar Hero World Tour makes it hard to activate on drums without breaking combo.
5. Good note charting. If you look at the Guitar Hero charts, you'll think that the Neversoft guys are on crack or something. Misplaced chords, Through The Fire And Flames, One, it's just a disaster.
6. Note that Harmonix, the company that developed Rock Band, Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero 1, Guitar Hero 2, and Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80's, not only began the band idea, but also began the instrumental music video games.
7. Pathetic drums. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vA-jCLJRJdI.
8. Even though it's called GUITAR Hero, Rock Band 2 is probably harder on Expert Guitar.
9. 20 FREE downloads that come with Rock Band 2.
10. The Rock Band 2 fretboards and graphics look sleek, whereas Guitar Hero World Tour looks like a cartoon.
11. It's hard to tell in Guitar Hero World Tour when it is a drum fill.
12. The failing system makes the band experience better because you can revive bandmates.
13. A HUGE range of songs due to the DLC.
14. It's Cool for Cats
15. The Rock Band 2 drums work out of the box, unlike the GH World Tour that either a) have to be calibrated through a long and lengthy process that involves getting a usb device shipped to you to fix them or b) don't work at all.
16. A much more in-depth career mode that includes fans, different venues, a staff, and different challenges. Even though they try to make it different by splitting it into gigs, Guitar Hero World Tour still feels very linear.
17. Knowing how many stars you have during the song.
18. Screaming Random Nonsense to activate Vocal Overdrive WAY FUN!
19. GHWT might have open notes on Bass, but in Rock Band's bass there is the Bass Groove (the 6x multiplier), which emphasizes the importance of the bassist having to get combo going in order for the band to get a good score.

Now here are the other arguments:

1. Wide range of different artists/groups such as Van Halen, The Eagles, Michael Jackson, and Jimi Hendrix. - OK, I won't argue that.
2. The ability to create your own songs for guitar, bass, and drums. - Good luck making a good song!
3.The ability to play other peoples custom songs - All of them are ringtones!
4. The introduction of open notes makes bass playing different than guitar. - I'll admit, that's cool
5.The ability to play beginner difficulty for those who can't play easy. - Yet mysteriously no "No fail"...
6.The drum kit has 3 pads, 2 cymbals, and a bass pedal making this the most realistic drumming experience of any game. - Do you play Guitar Hero for realism? If you realistic drumming, buy a real kit. If you want fun drumming, speaking as an owner of GH and RB, buy Rock Band 2.
7.The option to use the slider on the guitar neck for certain sections in the song or you can tap it as an alternate way to strum - A) Broken, B) Doesn't always register.
8. vocal fills in the song instead of having to slap the mic during breaks. - This is just plain ridiculous. Who ever heard of a frakkin' VOCAL FILL
9. the ability to activate star power at any point (as long as you have it) in the song for drums and vocals. - Doesn't work at all for drums and microphone picks it up as a pitch.
10. Good balance of easy and difficult songs - Just like Rock Band 2.
11. Guitar Battles - These are OK I guess.

I'll continue this argument. I love RB2 vs. Guitar Hero wars.

Rant initiated:

Jeez, Austin's argument was at least convincing, that is just plain bull. Seriously, you have to calibrate GH: WT drums? No way! That is so misinformed. I started playing them right after I set it up! Ringtone music? BS. You change change the style of every instument you create sonds with (Keyboard, Rhythm Guitar, Lead Guitar, Bass, and Drums.) The GH drumset isn't realistic, its just better. If you want a full drum kit, you have more cymbals, a high hat, chimes, the actual drums, and various other percussion doo-dats. Rock Band 2's drum is just as "realistic" as GH's, frankly. You said that GH doesn't have 500 DL songs and that "the Star Power meter sucks" like 3 times each, also.

BTW: vocal fills and drum fills are easy to reconize. If one can't, then their TV contrast is not so good.

And, the slider is too reactive, personally I'm not a fan of it. I'm not quite sure about the "breaking". Knowing GH's good record with quality palstic guitars, they probably don't break unless they're abused. But I do like GH buttons more than RB buttons. I like them less wide, but that is a matter of personal preference.

And you (and your lil' Facebook buddie) don't need to tell me how important the bass is--I play the tuba, I think I know that the bass line is what the band is built from.

You have to play GH: WT more, and I need to play RB2 more for a more informed opinion. I'll share that more informed opinion once I have played both games enough. Do we have an accord, then?

Rant over-and if someone makes me raise my blood pressure one more time about the unsolvable argument about the GH vs. RB rivalry I'll, I'll,... Wink

I actually like Rock Band 2 a little more than GH:WT but there are several holes in your arguement.

2. Didn't Rock Band come up with the idea of using your own Overdrive to save a bandmate?
8. Not even close. Guitar Hero guitar is WAY harder on expert.
16. Did you not just complain about Guitar Hero being too realistic?

2. Who cares if it's a good song? It was fun just to make it!
3. Video Game soundtracks, anyone? Tetris, Pokemon, Mario, all fun to play on GHtunes.
7. Worked fine for me so far.

There is a legitmate arguement for Rock Band, but you just fail to make it.
