I finally bought WALL-E on DVD. Amazing.

This film is almost too good to be a "kid's film." Pixar's films really raise the bar for animation in general. Like LEGO, this movie makes it OK to enjoy things that are actually marketed to children.

Its amazing the expression they can get out of basically binoculars and a box with hands. The sound in this movie is incredible too. I highly recommend watching this at the highest volume that you can stand. All of the squeaks and tings really bring this movie to life. I love it when he taps his hands together when he's thinking. I also like the fact that the angle of his eyes determine when his personality returns. The detail is just incredible.

I've watched Wall-E many, many times and I don't think I'll ever get tired of it. I live for the little bit with the spork.
Up looks good too, but not really good. Flynn (brother) will probably want to see it for his birthday, and if so I'll probably watch it. But it's not on my list.
Bolt wasn't Pixar, was it? And isn't there supposed to be a Toy Story Three next year or something?

Bolt is made by Disney, but not with Pixar. And as for Toy Story Three...I never heard about it. At the end credits of the second one, the toy penguin says something like "We'll have to put that in Toy Story Three" but I'm not sure if it was just for jokes.

And Cars 2 in 2012.

Pixar is now the only animation studio I care about and the only film makers I know I will definitely see their films in the cinema.

Cars 2? Seriously? I've seen eight minutes of the first one and I hated it.
I loved the first two Toy Stories, but I don't really see how the third one could be as good.

Watch all of Cars. It is a truly spectacular film and beats any other animation hands down. The opening is a bit showy, but it is so beautiful as a whole (especially the most tear jerking Pixar moment so far).

But I don't see how they can do another.

Well, Flynn watched all of it, and he didn't like it.
When we were watching it at a drive in theater, we didn't finish it because I fell and hurt my knee really bad. (Blood everywhere. It was hilarious.)
(People suddenly leaving the theater, that is.)
But how is a movie about talking cars tear-jerking?

*Sigh* Well, that sounds strangely familiar... Oh. Right.

Flynn wrote:

Golly. You'd almost think that you both are related or something.

But back on topic, while I share the same view as Fetty by way of Pixar films, I still sort of wish they weren't doing Toy Story 3... Pixar's had a spotless track record by way of franchise-milking, IMO, and if the plot turns out to be the one I read about, that record's going to be taking a rather hard hit in my book. I mean, I know that IMDB doesn't have accurate information all of the time, but if the plot that was on there when I investigated TS3 a while ago, I might not see it in theaters... I won't disclose the plot I read because it may not be the actual thing, and if it is (hopefully a big if), I don't want to spoil it...

But like I said a few pages back, if the movie's no good, at least I'll get another whack at getting a Buzz Lightyear action figure... What do I always say... When life gives you lemons, spend money! Very Happy

Well, I think that person has a reasona-
Wait.
That's Flynn, isn't it.
Cars 2, Huh? Sounds GREAT! Can't wait to see it!
Ooh, Toy Story merchandise! Didn't think of that!
I half hope Jessie has a big role, and half think a movie like that would be terrible.

Well, I'm sorry, but my view on Cars still hasn't changed. Granted, I'm not as abrasive about it as I saw four pages ago, but it's still, in my opinion, an extremely overrated film and definitely Pixar's worst. Sorry.

Although I will admit, the ending wasn't that bad.

The final race at the end, when Chick knocks the King off the track. It sounds weak, but the way it uses previously established information it is really sad.

Don't know who Chick is, but King was my favorite character (I saw the first bit with him) so alright, that is kind of sad.

It's more than that, it links to something else from earlier in the film, which I won't spoil.

Well the mayor of the town (that Lightning destroyed) is actually an old race car who was in a huge crash in the 50s. When he was fixed, he couldn't get into a race again. When the King crashes, Lightning realises what will happen, so stops just in front of the finish line, so he can go back and push the King, so he finishes the race. Chick wins, but no one cares because of what he did to the King.

I totally agree with you. Pixar has really stayed away from doing sequels to their films, the only exception being Toy Story 2, but it creates more unique storys to form. Cars in my opinion is the weakest of the realeases, but Pixar was going in a good direction. They had already done movies about animals and people so it was good to see they were thinking of other types of movies. I wish that the trend with Disney cartoons is not applied to Pixar's films. Whie it would be cheaper to make sequels due to the fact many motions have been created for the characters, Pixar's origionality has been what makes the movies so good. Disney has overkilled sequels creating in most cases dul plots, annoying new characters, the voicing is slightly altered because either the previous cast member is no longer there or because most of the origional cast has passed away.

Disney sequels are a joke in my opinion, they often lack content and seem to be made purely on the basis of geetting more money. While there are some good sequels they were produced quiet some time ago when the quality of the sequel mattered because it was to be seen at the movies before being distributed by VHS. One example is "The Rescuers Down Under" it is just as good if not better than the original. It seems like Disney today just wants kids who chances have never seen some of the original movies to want the new ones.

Sorry that this has become such a long rant, but I want Pixar to keep doing what they have done since the beginning, and not follow the footsteps of their owner Disney.

Anyway, I saw WALL-E for the first time the other day. I'm now very sorry that I didn't see it earlier. Because, man. That is one good film.

What's all this hate on Cars? I love the harkening back to the Old days of Route 66, and the Dodge Challenger Daytona, i.e. The King is my favorite Nascar ride, not to mention it beat my expectations quite severely over the head. I wasn't very hopeful for it, but it proved to be very good.

Now, a dissappointing Pixar, let me see... Bug's life Evil or Very Mad Lame.

Pixar always leaves me unimpressed with there previews, (Incredibles excepted) But I have since learned, so Up, will be an amazing movie, just accept it.

Shocked Surprised
How can you say that. A Bug's Life was awesome, especially when you consider when it was released. It may not be the best, but it's certainly not a disappointment.

Cars didn't do the worst at the Box Office, just had the worst reviews. Cars is one of my favorite Pixar films, I place it above Toy Story 2, Monster's Inc. and A Bug's Life. Smile

Critically (Rotten Tomatoes):

Toy Story 100%

Toy Story 2 100%

Finding Nemo 98%

The Incredibles 97%

Ratatoullie 96%

Wall-E 96%

Monster's Inc. 94 %

A Bug's Life 91%

Cars 76%

Box Office (Worldwide):

Finding Nemo $864,625,978

The Incredibles $631,442,092

Ratatoullie $621,426,008

Monsters Inc. $525,366,597

Wall-E $522,747,141

Toy Story 2 $485,015,179

Cars $461,983,149

A Bug's Life $363,398,565

Toy Story $361,958,736

i personally thought that the incredibels was the worst...cars wasnt the best plot or anything but it was pretty funny....i think it was one of those movies with a lot of inside jokes (e.g. the car talk people being his sponsers and saying dont drive like my brother...if you have never listened to car talk itd be stupid but if you knew that they said that at the end of every broadcast then it would be funny) thats just the way i look at it the movie is filled with stuff like that and in turn makes a funny movie i think that it is a movie that is aimed more at an adult audience b/c of some of the inside jokes

ps that box office thing is skewed b/c
1 at the time of toy story's release pixar was a dark horse when it came to movie making companies
2 they didnt charge as much to get in back then

But unfortunitely, film takings are often taken without factoring in inflation.

I know about inflation. You want to do the math (even though as stated bellow, you'd have to in the end accept you don't know how many tickets were sold for each film) by all means, go ahead. I don't have the time for it myself, or the interest, and even if I had a Premier Pass at BOM, it would adjust inflation for Worldwide Gross.

Year Avg. Price
2009 Est.$7.20
2008 $7.20
2007 $6.88
2006 $6.55
2005 $6.41
2004 $6.21
2003 $6.03
2002 $5.81
2001 $5.66
2000 $5.39
1999 $5.08
1998 $4.69
1997 $4.59
1996 $4.42
1995 $4.35
1994 $4.18
(Box Office Mojo, where above Gross # were taken from)

"Adjusting for ticket price inflation is not an exact science and should be used to give you a general idea of what a movie might have made if released in a different year, assuming it sold the same number of tickets."

I recently saw Cars again, this time with a more forgiving view, and to be honest, it's not nearly as bad as I thought it to be however many pages ago (In other words, I'm not going to scream at you people for liking it. Wink ). The animation was, like always, superp, and as mhsdrummer mentioned, it had a lot of cute in-jokes. Also, Doc Hudson was a very likable character (Which means I'm willing to forgive the "tragic backstory"), and the ending sequence is by far one of the best in any Pixar film.

Does this mean that I think it's a good film? No, I still don't. It's still plagued by the overly cliched plot elements and story, and Mater is, in my opinion, one of the worst sidekicks I've seen in an animated movie. Also, I just hated that Porche. I don't know why. Confused

Anyways, it's still an enjoyable movie, and I'm definitly not as harsh about it as I was a while ago. Wink

EDIT: Come on, it was a joke.
