The votes are in, and it’s official: you can upload and link to custom avatars now.
But, here’s the deal. We want to keep this fun and fair. We’re doing this for the good of the community. So, we expect every member to do his part by following the rules and encouraging others to do so. And, we want to make one thing very clear: the moment it seems like people are abusing the privilege, and that having custom avatars is causing tension and trouble, we’re gonna’ pull the plug on it, quickly and permanently. Custom avatars should make your forum experience better, not worse; so, we hope that everyone is willing to cooperate and play well.
Requirements:
- Avatars may be no larger than 100x100 pixels
- Avatars may be no larger than 20 Kb in size
- No animated GIFs, garishly ugly avatars or backgrounds. Make the background transparent, please.
- The content of the avatar must not in any way portray, promote, advertise, describe, or communicate in any way shape or form sin brands or illegal activity. Sin brands are defined as companies, logos, websites, or other entities where the main subject matter is tobacco, alcohol, firearms, and/or pornography. The content may not directly or indirectly describe the actions of using such sin brands or illegal activity.
- The content of the avatar must not in any way belittle, humiliate, threaten, or cause embarrassment to another member.
- The avatar must feature the entire body of the character it is portraying. Basically, no floating heads cut off at the shoulders, neck, or other arbitrary horizon. Unless of course you are depicting a character that is, in fact, a floating head, like the pre-recorded image of Jor-El from the 1978 Superman movie. Bubble / Balloon style images of vehicles are okay but must be the complete vehicle. Basically, no partial bodies or partial vehicles. Avatars must be in the 'ballooney' style. This means no photos, portraits, or stick figures. This style is rather cartoony, playful and fun, and we think it fits our forums well. Basically, it consists of characters drawn with round, oversized heads, hands and feet, and small, stout bodies. See the example below…
If you can’t draw a custom image like this on your own, there are plenty available in the FBTB avatar gallery to choose from. Also, there are members of the FBTB community who generously offer their time and talents to produce avatars like these and make them freely available for use by the FBTB community.
Any member whose avatar does not meet the above requirements will have disciplinary action taken against their FBTB account. The action and the extent will be at the discretion of the staff, and may include loss of privileges, including the right to display an avatar. _________________ THIS IS NOT A DRILL. I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT A DRILL. EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY. |
