UPDATE: Submission phase is over, entries can be found HERE!
Thank you Turkguy19 for arranging these
****************
Hello everyone, glad you could make it to the briefing.
It's no secret that our new enemy is far more evolved than the Imperials were, and that our squadron of fighters are getting a bit outdated. It is your mission, as our engineer, to build a replica to the scale of a LEGO minifig of your own evolution of the X-wing. We don't want it to look exactly like the X-wing, just share a couple distinct characteristics. We want this new fighter to have an entirely new personality (New overall shape). Now, there are several downfalls of the X-wing, speed, agility, stealth and firepower are all issues that should be addressed. However, I do not require you to fix all of these problems, we're looking for a better balance of each. Also keep in mind that this is supposed to be a medium sized fighter. It can't be so large that it hinders the speed and can't be so small that it hinders the amount of rockets you are able to carry. I do not want to hear things, I want to have visual evidence that it has been improved, be sure to describe the improvements when you submit your model. No shortcuts are to be made during this build, so only actual, unaltered LEGO bricks may be used. I do not want to see one of your old models again, this should be a new model AND a new idea, built and designed specifically for this project. Please focus all of your time on one entry, as I will only accept one. I also would only like one picture in your entry, no bigger than 400x400 pixels. I have a panel of experts ready to judge just how well your model is built and complies to the above description.
The engineers with the best models submitted will be awarded handsomely. This is, of course, open to builders all over the planet.
My prizes are (All MISB, maybe slight box damage):
1st Place: 6208 B-wing
2nd Place: 6206 Tie Interceptor
3rd Place: 6207 A-wing
(Plus two honerable mentions)
Contest will run until May 5th, 2007, Entries will not be accepted until April 23rd
Judges will remain anonymous until after the winners are decided, to avoid any bribery.
This Contest has been approved by the Staff, I hope you like the idea and let the questions begin. Please do not ask a question without reading the entire post, if you do, I give permission to one member to thwart them for their wrong-doings
Thanks,

sounds like a cool contest. I will be entering.
One question though, you said that you can only have one picture. But can we put a link to a brickshelf folder with other pictures?
Because I don't think juts one picture can show off all the sides and hidden details we might add. _________________

Would it possibly fit in any of the requirements? Nope. Don't worry, Juns, I'm still on my rocker... for now.
... Oh, is that what you're thinking? No, Read my history, it's all self-explanatory. _________________

Interesting sounding contest, TPJ!
I'm a tad bit confused as to the execution of concept, however.

I'm thinking along the lines of the voidfighter contest, just for the X-Wing. _________________

I thought that was obvious, so yes, more pictures in your gallery the better

Think along the lines of how they evolved the ARC-170 into the X-wing, I basically want you to do that to the X-wing. So you will still have similarities but it's a whole new beast.
Thanks everyone for showing interest.

Is there any restriction on the number of pilots? I am guessing at least one. But can there be more than one?

If you want it to be an X-wing evolution, I wouldn't put any more than 2.

Do you mean, a design improvement of the actual fighter, or just a modification of the existing official LEGO model?
BTW, cool idea, it reminds me of my old contests? _________________ Darkkazmo

I think this will be a great contests, and more members will enter it. _________________

So, the ship must have a X in it like the X-wing, or not?
And, must it have the same colors (white and red) ? _________________

I want to be able to see that you've made it better, without just saying "I gave it more thrust" I actually want to be able to see that it looks like it has more thrust. I am just talking about EVOLVING to the actual X-wing. Your final result should look as much like the X-wing as the X-wing looks like the ARC-170. Basically, build a model the same general size as the X-wing, that has improved characteristics and a couple obvious similarities.

What you keep the same as the old X-wing is up to you, this new model will NOT be an X-wing, it will get a whole new name. The X is optional.
Colors must be Rebel Alliance-esque. Probably won't stray too far from grey and red, or white and red. But I'll try to keep an open mind for other color codes.
Thanks,

If you don't need to cover all the problems, why can't you just make a smaller fighter that's speedy, fast, and stealthy? And the number of rockets isn't that big of deal since the normal X-wing could only carry 8 rockets... I gotta think of excuses, since I built a really neat small "X-Wing"

This still stands. This ship has to be big enough to have serious firepower, I don't want you to make another A-wing, as that's what the A-wing was built for.
