The new Y-Wing is a great improvement over the old version. It has 454 pieces and a lot more detail. The new y-wing is actually bigger than the old one but is more fragile (more things fall off when playing with it). The "Bombing" mechanism works ok but only if the ship is level or pointed down. Otherwise the technic piece falls out and BOMBS AWAY! The missile mechanism works better than I thought it would. You push the missile all the way through the ship and it sort of locks into place. You then push the missile out and it fires much farther than the B-wing missiles did.

The amountof detail on this ship is amazing for a system scale ship. There is not much more greebling that can be done on this ship. It is much sleeker than the older version and nicer looking in my opinion. I can descrobe for many pages but I think that I'll just let the pictures do the talking Very Happy

The minifig has the same helmet as the old Y-wing pilot and has a flesh smiley head. It also has the same red "R2" unit and the same death star trench computer.
Overall the set is a great build and is essential to anyone who wants a rebel fleet or a ship for their ties to gun down.

Build: the build is pretty fun although making the engines began to get repetative so... 7.5
Completed model: The model looks spectacular when completed so I give it an 8
Durability: Other than the top lasers falling off and the engines come off a little too easily so it gets a 7
Swooshability: This thing can be held from almost any place and is swooshable so this gets a high place with a 9
Cool Factor: this is just an awsome ship 9
Average: 8.1

I definately recommend getting at least one of these sets!

Very nice. I've been wanting to see some pictures of this updated set, and I'm very impressed. The original Y-Wing was a passable model, but I've always thought it was lacking a bit. Nice to see an update.

I have already the 10134 y-wing.

I'm going to take pictures of the big one next to the little one Smile Very Happy

Bob, my wife is going to be so mad at you. Here I was, all happy with my old y-wing, and then you have to show me how much better the new one looks. Looks like I'll be picking it up now, much to her chagrin Very Happy

I like this set very much but it really is going to be one of those that I mod the heck out of before destroying.
I am not made up about the cocpit area and the fusalarge to engine wing things should be thinner.
On the other hand I don't yet have a Y-wing and this will be a most welcome set.

Because my parents wouldn't buy me one when they were out - duh - and they are now out of stock and although I haven't checked I imagine eBay would be too expensive for a 16 year old kid/young adult with other interests and I different priority for LEGO sets.

Same reason I do not have a system X-wing, the AT-AT, an AT-ST, a Millenium Falcon, the most recent UCS sets and many other sets - please think. Mad
Lots of people here don't have lots of sets, ask why they don't have them.
And remember that LEGO is pretty dam expensive Confused

Look at price trends. LEGO is getting cheaper.

Is this new y-wing or the old y-wing closer to actual minifig scale?
And the greebling is great, I'll pick this set up regardless of the size.

cheap or expensive, depends on the buyer.

you can say it is cheap, but do we all say that?

a member just said he couldn't afford the expensive sets

Now, if only the X-Wing and the Tie Fighters were at this level of details and accuracy!!!
It's just how funny people were hating its "smaller" size when the initial pics hit the boards! All I can say to them now: Burn?

Wow, this set is really it...

I thought Lego was getting cheaper, but the Y-wing bucks the trend.

B-wing: 435 pieces, 2 minifigs (incl. 1 new, unique fig), £25
Slave I: 537 pieces, 4 minifigs (incl. 3 new figs), £40
Y-wing: 454 pieces, 1 minifig, £40

By this comparison the Y-wing is ridiculously overpriced! Mad

all lego is overpriced in britain. look at 6212 it was $40 so it should have been around £25 but it was £40!

anyway does any one know if there is space for the rebels blaster in the cockpit of the y-wing?

The blaster can just be put in the cockpit with the pilot. It jingles around but won't fall out.

Bang on, Darkk One! This set puts the current X-Wing they're selling at the same time TO SHAME! Mad This "System" Y-Wing makes the X-Wing & TIE Collection look like Duplo sets!!! Confused Wink

Well, you get my point. Evil or Very Mad

(If you're going to put out an X-Wing for $80 CAD at least increase the detail & accuracy instead of including bogus "exclusive" minifgs!!! Grrrr...)

Adding my 64 cents in again... Wink

The set is pretty good, but to be honest I've never been a big fan of the ship's design, either in the movies themselves or as LEGO. The first thought I had after building this ship was "that's it?" Maybe I'm in the minority, but I couldn't shake the feeling that it wasn't worth $40. I'm not exactly sure why I feel that way, but I just can't shake it off.

The overall build and greebling were well done. Like the System ISD, the set designers managed to take the feel of the UCS model and successfully shrink it down to System-scale. I can't help but feel like the underside of the ship, like Grevious' starfighter, looks completely unfinished– it needs some slopey wedges or something under there so it's not quite so flat. Also, I'd heard talk that the helmet is the same as the old Y-Wings, but looking at it now, it looks new– is that right?

All that being said, I still think LEGO did a bang-up job with the set and can see how Y-Wing aficionados would be wetting themselves with joy over it, but for me personally the set just isn't that special.

Really!? Do you work for LEGO or did you put the price into a currency changer. You did? Thought so.

LEGO is over priced in Britain, but thats the norm. Saying a set is worth £25 when its £40 isn't true.

m19 How do you think this compares to the B-wing as a parts pack?

Vs. the B-wing, I don't see as much smooth structure potential. The B-wing had more usable plates/wings. The curved slopes lend to a smoother design when those can be used.

The Y-wing definitely takes over in the greebling department. The other side of these greeblie bits is the tremendous potential for shaping and movable parts. All the headlight bricks allow easy snot, but all the bars easily allow varied angles in the build.

Construction ideas that I am toying with are detailing the bottom, a SLAM from just this set, a "starter home" for the Borg, a mid-sized mecha, and maybe a rover/moon module.

I'd take the B-Wing for "structure" pieces (plates, bricks, big parts) and the Y-Wing for smaller greebling parts. If I had to choose between the two in general, I'd probably choose the B-Wing. I personally don't do a lot of crazy multi-directional or SNOT building, so the B's limited parts in that respect are just fine for my personal style. (What's funny about both of those sets is that I never really liked either ship in the movies, so my opinion is pretty objective when it comes to parts usefulness.)

As you said, the B-Wing's parts seem to have more "mass", whereas the Y-Wing has a lot of little 1x1 size-range pieces that are harder to work with on their own– which, granted, can be a good challenge if you're so inclined. I also like the fact that the B has two figs as opposed to the Y's one fig and one droid.

Hey, droids are great as the brains when riding "smart" missiles, ablative armor when punching through trade federation blockades, or debris when trying to fool bounty hunters that you are dead.
