And I smell a very hurtful move made by you on other sites.
Anyway, can't wait for the polls, all the models look so good .

Is it the "Good Ole Boy" network shaking hands? If they all have this model, is it just for keeping points? Why does C-S only come here for our contests?
I think a good conspiracy is what we are all looking for to get past the snit over "following the rules" to the letter. I will say that all but one(?) of the nominees does at least visit FBTB and cross post their creations, and ... actually make comments!!! _________________

I love the work on C-S and PCS and Fleebnork and the like for that matter and ain't nothing like a little collusion to really make things interesting... ::D:
(Absolutely kidding of course)

Great observation AJC123...
No kidding, you would think we would need to go to Wisconsin to get enough cheese for all of the WHINE...
Seriously, next contest, if one wants clarification on the rules, they need to simply ask. Some of the rules were intuitively obvious to even the most casual observer, and those very few that were not--were certainly very easily clarified.
Looking forward to the next contest in a couple months, and I may actually have to get off of my ample posterior and put in an entry... _________________

They don't. And I don't think there's any sort of conspiracy. The 5 may all be C-S members, but they're fbtb members too.
mikepsiaki:
fbtb member since: February 4, 2005 (or earlier)
C-S member since: December 27, 2004
fmoo:
fbtb member since: April, 2005
C-S member since: June 2005
porschecm2:
fbtb member since February 4, 2005 (or earlier)
C-S member since December, 2004
Mark Stafford:
fbtb member since November, 2005
C-S member since April 2005
Legohaulic:
fbtb member since November, 2005
C-S member since June 29, 2006
They all have posted, to various extents, outside of contest related matters. Several of them are more active here than at C-S. But even if this wasn't so, all five are inarguably great models. Who built them is irrelevant.
I don't know how serious you all are about this conspiracy idea, but I really don't think there's anything to it and discussing it is just plain silly.

:D!
Before yelling "conspiracy!", maybe check out the record. I personally actively post at several different Lego websites, which happen to include FBTB, CS, and CCC. And I've been a member here since before CS was even dreamed of.
CS, however, through its often heavy-handed critiques, really encourages builders to go above par in MOCing, and this could be another explanation for that.

Are those dates accurate? Has C-S never crashed or changed software like FBTB?
So, I am going to look at Post Counts!
mikepsiaki: FBTB 155 C-S SIX!!!
fmoo: FBTB 416 C-S/krush 194!
porschecm2: FBTB 414 C-S 213!
Mark Stafford: FBTB 25 C-S 334!
Legohaulic: FBTB Only Five C-S Twenty-Two!
On average, there are One Hundered Thirty Five Times* as many posts at Classic-Space vs FBTB!!!! And, we know that statistics don't Lie! I am just glad that this BrickFest thing was coming up and that Summer was in the air. Just think how many models from C-Sers would have been around!
And some people don't know a fake conspiracy when it bites them on the ... nose. It is like a fire line used to stop a brush fire before it gets out of control.

Look guys, I was saying that it was a conspiracy only for a laugh, not to bash Classic Space members or anything of the like. I DO NOT think it was a conspiracy. If Classic Space people ARE (Idk for sure) just coming here for the contests, I say bring em on, more competition for me.

I don't post to forums regularly, but when I do have the time, I've spent most of it on FBTB. SW Lego is what got me out of my dark age, and FBTB is where I started MOCing, so FBTB will always have a special place in my mind.
As Cm2 mentioned, CSF is a great place to help raise the bar for your MOCs. You can be inspired by other people's cool space MOCs and learn some new building techniques, and the reputed harsh criticisms aren't so bad as long as one spends some time and effort on a MOC. If you love building spaceships, then it's a good place to check out.
I like both sites (plus some others...), and the real problem is finding time to participate in all of them, and still have time to get some building done!
Dennis
edit: btw, 'krush' is the new screen name that I use everywhere else. I actually tried to switch on FBTB awhile back but had the usual email validation issues, so I just stuck with 'fmoo' here. _________________

First of all, congradulations to Legohaulic, Mark Stafford, Porchecm2, Krush, mikepsiaki, and everyone who entered or is in need of a pat on the back. You are all winners in my book; well, most of you.
Next, who cares if someone spends time at one Lego site more than another. It's their business not ours. They are spending time at both so who cares. _________________

Good luck to all those that got through and nice try to those who didn't, including myself. Conspiracy or not it's been enjoyable and annoying in trying to make an r shape. I've got my vote ready for the second round and I think there's a good chance of a consecutive compo winner, hint hint!! |

I also tried to bribe him into picking me for one of the top five, despite not having built anything for the contest. My plan was for him to say that this is the only thing he could consider to put in the finals and that it is the best model evah!
But, alas, I didn't have enough galaxy explorers to bribe him with .
This has been an excellent contest entry-wise. I look forward to the voting. Good luck, guys! _________________ Brickshelf | Mocpages | flickr |

I hope you won't be offended, Bohman, if I say that the best part of that model is the gallery heading.
Any way, perhaps a little conspiracy now then is all in good fun.(my post is edited accordingly, BTW)

Wow.. this was one tough contest to vote for. In the end... it came down to which one I felt fit the project inspiration most. So, I gave the nod to porschecm2 over Mark Stafford in what was a tightly contested, very heated battle in my head.
I have to say... looking at all five of these MOCs can give a person insight into fantastic building techniques that could completely change the way you might build. Now I'm just trying to unlock those secrets that I see in front of me. Oh yeah, and get more parts.
Thanks to everyone for giving these contests life, and sharing with the community.
Thanks to Jon Palmer for both the inspiration and the judging... you actually saved us a month of debate .
Finally, last but certainly not least, Ace gets a big thanks from me for taking on a job that doesn't get many thanks. The pay is terrible, the hours are worse, but the joys it can bring are that much better for it, I'm sure. Thanks for once again pushing FBTB a little further. I know I appreciate the work. _________________ flickr |

My vote, without hesitation, went to Legohaulic. His ship is one of those rare creations that looks effortlessly and perfectly designed and built from the moment I first viewed it. The shape is brilliant without overtly grasping for a recognizeable R-shape, the color scheme is absolutely beautiful, and it has a nice amount of greebling. Overall it's just a really solid creation, while details like the s-foils help solidify that this is indeed a wonderful SW creation. Excellent work Legohaulic, you definitely deserve to win this one.
--------------------------------------------------------
Some comments on the other top 5 entries:
- Porschecm2's is easily the most "Jon Palmer"ish of the bunch, in both its shape, size, and color scheme and was a strong contender for my vote the entire time.
- It's eerie how similar, shape-wise, fmoo and mikepiaski's ships ended up. They're great creations but look more to me like mini- or micro-scale capital ships than crafts a single pilot would be flying. If you take the minifig away, I'd have a difficult time seeing them as minifig scale. I'm not totally sold on them being SW-universe ships either, as they seem to be more Macross- or Starship Troopers-type ships (more military-like) to me.
- Mark Stafford's ship is undoubtedly neat in both its color scheme and construction, but the overall build of the ship is just too flimsy and tries to force the R-shape way too heavily for my taste and just doesn't seem very feasible as a "real" SW ship. I know it's a building style, too, but the flatness of the bricks-on-their-side constructed wings just makes those areas too "blah" to be very interesting (to me).
--------------------------------------------------------
If this wasn't an R-Wing contest and just a general Star Wars shipbuilding event, I would have loved to have seen Schism's ship get into the top 5. It doesn't necessarily scream "R-Wing" to me, but the shape, build, and colors are just brilliant. It very much reminds me of a Mandalorian ship or perhaps a pirate or maruader craft. I love the alien feel it has; it looks like it would also be at home in the Matrix universe.
Weasel47's ship was another I was surprised didn't make the top 5, as it not only screams out SW (due to its B-Wing-like influences) but also has a totally believable R-shape without being forced.
Good job all; it looks like this is going to be another close contest.

Ouch.
For what it's worth the wings are strong, and have never fallen off or broken. They are thicker then if I'd built them by the traditional studs up method using Lego wing pieces, and if I'd used that method the stripes would have looked very clumsy, if not been impossible to build. The beauty of this building method is the patterns that can be made in the bricks and I wanted to try and break up the expanses or flat area with colour rather then greebling for a change.
They are also no thinner then the wings of an X-Wing or a B-Wing.
I'm surprised to have made it to the last 5, as there were far better MOCs that didn't make it in, and I'm amazed to be doing so well, thanks to all who have voted for me!
Cheers,
Mark. _________________ Brickshelf

My apologies if my comments came off as unduly harsh– I didn't intend it that way, but rather just as a personal interpretation of your ship's asthetics to me. It's a brilliant design to be sure, but those couple sore points just stuck out to me. For the flat areas in particular, I suppose it's that they are so long and smooth, not necessarily the width or height of them, that I'm nitpicking. A smaller, flat smooth area would've been less conspicuous than several long wings' worth. Maybe that helps clarify what I was trying to say?

For a relative newcomer to FBTB (and Classic-Space ), Legohaulic brought a very solid build to the table. The color, structure, greebles and design did look effortless. I would like a bit more for the engine and and that the big gun did not look a bit off balance.
Mark Stafford had an exotic like Concept Cars at auto shows.
porschecm2 was most useful. I could see it as my daily driver/landspeeder to work.
fmoo wins as the best tank. So much Armor!
mikepsiaki has that old time flair down pat. It was definitely Old Republic.
Those are my thoughts.
Or, did I just pick the first one that Ace listed?
Obviously, the new conspiracy is that he has some pyschological trick to make us vote 1st thru 5th in order:
Legohaulic 32% [ 28 ]
Mark Stafford 30% [ 26 ]
porschecm2 18% [ 16 ]
fmoo 11% [ 10 ]
mikepsiaki 6% [ 6 ]
--------------------------------------------------------
From What are your Top 5 R-wing picks?
As official voting has started, I've gathered our straw poll results.
Unofficial Voting Results 8/29/2006 11:00am:
1 Adrenaline
4 amethyst
1 apophisV
4 bwu
1 donner1846
1 dwhisper
7 fmoo
1 gold_2
7 legohaulic
3 lt. kettch
7 Mark Stafford
3 porschecm2
2 renegade
1 rogue bantha
9 schism
1 the champ
2 ThePlasticJedi
2 tzidik
Clearly, we can see that this contest will result in a three way tie between fmoo, legohaulic and Mark Stafford since the leader Schism did not make it to the final five. _________________
