This definately sounds interesting, Ace! (Of course, I always say that)
Just a clarification question: Do deleted scenes from the movies count?

Quick Question: Are we allowed to post WIP's in the SW MOCS section?

I do not know if I will get an entry ready, but lets see if these questions are within the limits:

1. Can we lean against nearby walls for support, as opposed to faking it and laying it horizontal?
The FAQ's "Jumper" did this.

2. Can we use the background around vignette to enhance the presentation?
One route is photoshopping. Say I have a Coruscant Speeder Chase vignette and for "background" I use a still from the movie. Or, the other route is placing the vignette on or near "real life" things. I could have the opening IV shot where a mini star destroyer chasing a "Tantive IV" is placed on a disc of tan paper with black and stars around it.

3. Can we use a SNOT base instead of an 8x8 base plate?
That is 20 plates to a side without studs showing for for 8x8. I suppose this would apply to the bottom 1 stud layer.

4. Can we use photoshop to enhance the presentation photo above and beyond photography correction and caption text?
This goes along with 2. but covers all the neat effects like flaring around the vignette, schematics, etc.

5. Can I submit a 2+ part modular vignette?
This is two or more vignettes that can stand alone, but can be placed next to each other. (personally, I don't want this allowed)

no, it has to be actually in the movie sequence.

sure you can. do so at your own risk.

one of the reasons why i place an embargo on submissions is to 1) prevent people from submitting early only to change their mind later and 2) prevent others from stealing your ideas. and plus, i think it's nice to have an unveiling of sorts and (hopefully) surprise everyone with what you came up with.

dude, you have like... 3 weeks. that's plenty of time.

The FAQ's "Jumper" did this.

if built correctly, it shouldn't have to lean on anything. the 10x10 footprint doesn't really allow a mass of weight to be shifted over so much to the point where your vignette would topple. even in the jumper vignette, it's built straight up.

that is fine as long as you don't use LEGO as part of your background. your vignette should be strong enough to stand on it's own without the use of a background, however.

no, 1 person, 1 vignette. submitting two is submitting 2 entries. so, no.

As much as Lucas has edited the movies, you could still use it if any of the fifteen shown/released versions of "A New Hope" displayed the footage when you "> Play" the movie. Very Happy

hmmm....this stinks about having it be 8x8. 10x10 with no overhangs would be a TON better... to late to change the rules... but still... open it up 2 more studs both directions.... many more possibilities thanks to more room. anyway, i'm off to order some sets for minifigs.

If it was a 10x10 a lot of people wouldn't consider it a vig then.

If it was 10x10 it wouldnt be a Vingnet, and that is was the contest is. The point of the 8x8 is so it isnt a very compilcated scene, but rather a small scene with "very little" to it.

There's no such thing as an 8x8 baseplate. Do you mean 8x8 brick? Just nitpicking. Wink

I just might have to put something together for this one.

Also, purely out of curiousity, who pays for the prizes for these contests?

He means an 8X8 plate, which will be used as the base of the vig.

Marvy contest, onions. Is this completely your doing, down to the prize offering? If so, thank you very much, for whoever wins; it's really nice of you to kick someone else a sweet LEGO gift certificate.

My obligatory question: since there's to be just one photo, if there are any special features (hidden surprises, moving or other cool functional elements, or just construction approaches we're particularly proud of) that might not be apparent in a single shot, do we also get to provide a brief description?

(Blast, I really wish we could submit multiple entries, but then I'm sure a lot of us would wind up covering the same moments. Oh, well. I don't have all the elements I'd need in my parts inventory for half the vignettes I have in mind, anyway...).

There is no rule saying only 8x8 bases can be used on a vignette (I mean in general, obviously that is the restriction on this particular contest). It's simply that 8x8 is the most common dimension configuration used.

Oh ok. I just thought it was because whenever I see one it is on an 8x8, my bad Wink

Oh, crap. I don't have an 8x8 brick. May I use two 4x8 plates instead?

Obviously, one need merely use a Duplo base and put non-Duplo bricks on that - your 8x8 Duplo base thus yields a colossal 16x16 canvas for your masterpiece.

AND he didn't say you could win with Duplo, or apply system pieces to DuPLO without The Force and an excessive amount of superglue!... Very Happy

I believe when he was refering to a 8x8 baseplate he meant an 8x8 brick, and he stated that you could use an 8x8 plate if you did not have a baseplate.

But that's just my take on it.

onions, did you get my pm, i think i can pull off the design quite well,

one question though, if i did do that one can the base itself be like 4 bricks high and then the added model?

i've also worked out that it does not even over hang the 8x8 boundries
