Maybe this is a stupidly obvious question, but it just occurred to me. Do entries have to belong in the Star Wars universe, or are we free to make anything as long as it fits the System/vehicle/minifig pilot requirements , per the above? (As a hypothetical example, say, would an alternate model that's a Ronald McDonald-shaped mecha be allowed?)

I'd originally posted this question publically for everyone's sake, but onions PMed me in the meantime. In case anyone else was wondering, the alternate model does not have to be a SW creation. Wink

Ahh, I finally have finished digging through my collection and finding the parts to my B-wing. Time to get building! This seems like a great contest, onions, as the B-wing has the perfect combination of number of parts and variety. I'm really looking forward to some fun building this weekend, and as Morgan19 alluded to, there is something special and relaxing about building from a limited parts pool - no searching, no spreading pieces everywhich way, etc... Anyway, good luck to everyone (and me Smile )

For anyone interested: the word "alternate" is misused for the word "alternative". The former is associated with "sequence" while the latter is associated with "another". However, due to the popluar misuse, various dictionaries have listed "alternate" as meaning "an alternative" to conform with the popular usage.

TLG uses "alternative" instead of "alternate"

For further interest: another example of this is the word "inflammable", which, contrary to intuition, means conbustible. Nowadays people use the word "flammable" for "capable of catching on fire". This contest is hot.

Can we make a substitution request for a part in the set?

I would like to replace 2 of the 2x2 circular gray tiles included in the bwing set with 2 orange ones. I would like to have the orange accent without having to actually apply a sticker to the set.

Would that be able to remain within the scope of this contest?

I hope not, otherwise it'll likely open up a flood of "well he got to change out a piece, why can't I?!" posts. Even if it's the same piece but a different color, that's just asking for complaints. Use the stickers-- that's what they're there for. Wink

Or IMHO don't use the stickers. The pieces included are grey 2x2 round tiles, it's only the stickers that make them orange. I think to keep in the spirit of the competion you should use the grey plates and not apply the stickers to them.

no, no piece substitution allowed.

you can apply the stickers, take your photos, and then remove them from the elements if it pains you that much.

Onions, I think it would be a great idea to have the winner make instructions for his or her creation, then all of the participants will have the pieces to build it and marvel at the creation. You could also find out if the person used non-Bwing pieces. I, for one, would like this a lot. I will hopefully be enterring this contest if I find myslf a B-wing in time. I PMed you a long time ago about starting a new contest but I haven't heard from you (This was after Christmas sometime) did you get it or should I rePM you? I really like this type of a contest. Sure, not everyone has the set, but it really evens the playing field for people who don't have a ton of bricks at their disposal. I really like FBTB Contests and will at least be active in enterring, and creating, those. Hope to hear from you.

I second ThePlasticJedi's proposal for the winner having the obligation of make instructions.

Good idea with the instructions, but, someone may have to give the winner tips on creating them.

I for one, would know where to start. So for me, it would be than tips!!

Plus are all the pieces in MLCAD?

Why should the winner be made to post instructions? I thought the whole point was to to show what could be built from the set. The challenge then lies to others to build it for themselves. Making an "obligation", as Nannan puts it, for the winner to give instructions for their creation smacks of a lack of trust. This is meant to be a bit of fun, after all...?

Uhhh, I didn't say anything about 'obligation' I just thought that it would be nice to have instructions to build the model that won. You wouldn't HAVE to build it for yourself either, I just think that a lot of people would want to.

AAAAGGGHHHH!
I just opened my B-Wing set that I received a couple of days ago, and when I reached the stage where I needed to build the right wing, I discovered that the set is missing one of those 3x12 right wing/wedges (They sent an extra left wedgie)!!! That's like the second time I find a LEGO part mistake in a while! Why it has to be this set?

Now I need to use another part from my other sets to build this one! Which eventually I'm gonna disassemble to build the alternative for this contests... Now I need to contact LEGO for the missing part! I just hate it!... Grumble... Grumble... Evil or Very Mad

Kaz, that must've suck to miss a piece right before the contest.

Although I might've remembered TLG packing duplicates of wedges, I never recalled them missing a piece. However, recently I discovered a misformed 1X8 brick in my A-wing, it looked like a corner has been melted by a magnifying glass.

Can't wait to see what everyone's gonna put forth in this contest!

Nannan, I had to sacrifice one of my MINI ISDs for now! Wink
But still, that just sucks... It's like buying a guitar without strings, or a car with a missing wheel or a blowing doll without a nozzle, just ask Collin about the last one Razz
