Being British I naturally have no idea what you are talking about, though I decided to watch some American Football in an attempt to understand WTF was going on, and to my surprise I thought it was okay actually! Sure I had no freakin' idea what was happening but it looked similar to Rugby! 'Cept with more Armour (wimps) _________________ <Insert Witty comment here> |

So I was sitting here witing for Mizzou to finally stop the 'Huskers. I looked up and suddenly we're up 31 - 7. Things are looking pretty good for No 4.
And then I see that the Cubs are down 2 - 0 already. Things are looking REALLY good. Ol' Walt's is in a good mood tonight.
Now if the Rams could just win one... |
You're a Missouri fan? I live in Lincoln. Good game for you guys, but man, the Huskers look horrible.
I'm a Cubs fan too. Tough postseason. Again. |

Dang, I thought I edited my post fast enough so no one would notice. I had already posted by the time I realized what I wrote. |

Finally found an issue I agree with Obama on.

If I had it my way I would have a 64-team tourny like March Madness but 8 is still fine. _________________ XBLive = BlitzKreger

Okay, yeah, I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for resurrecting an old thread. But I want to add a new conversation.
The college football bowls are mostly through. However, we've still got the BCS National Championship game, in Miami.
So my new discussion is:
Who do you think will win in Miami, and why? and also, Who do you want to win the Championship?
Here is my review for each team:
#2 Florida Gators (Away Team)
Key Players: QB Tim Tebow, 3079 tot. yds, 40 tot. TD; WR Percy Harvin, 1133 tot. yds, 8.8 yds per carry; LB Brandon Spikes, 4 int, 2 TD
Keys to winning: 1) Control the first quarter:
If you let the Sooners perform like they have all year in the 1st, you might as well pack your bags for Gainsville.
2) Force field goals:
Oklahoma has hardly ever had to kick field goals all season. Both their kickers are inexpeienced in nervous. If you force field goals, you win. The numbers tell the story: Jimmy Stevens: 8/11, long of 42; Tress Way: 0/1
#1 Oklahoma Sooners (Home Team)
Key Players: QB Sam Bradford, 4464 pass. yds, 48 pass. TD; TE Jermaine Gresham, 888 rec. yds, 12 rec. TD; RB Chris Brown, 1110 rush yds, 20 rush TD
Keys to winning: 1) Get a quick start.
If Oklahoma gets a really good first quarter, UF is done for. 'Nuff said.
2) Control the Florida offense.
Face it. OU won't stop Tim Tebow's high powered spread offense. But if they slow them down, they can win.
My prediction: OU, 49-28
My fave: Oklahoma, they're my favorite team.
So, lets hear what everyone else has to say. _________________ Am I the only one who sometimes comes here, logs in, and fools around?

You need a playoff. Every year teams get screwed. This year they probably got lucky and picked the two best but tell that to Texas, USC and Utah...all 3 of those teams could beat both Florida and Oklahoma. They need either a 4 team or an 8 team playoff...then the best team will win every year.
I think florida will win. _________________ XBLive = BlitzKreger

I would go with an eight-team playoff. Just as a preview, this year it would have been:
(Note: My idea involves preserving the bowls in the playoff.)(Note again: I'm making predictions of winners in this)
Round 1:
#1 Oklahoma vs. #8 Penn State (Gator Bowl)
Prediction: #1 OU 55, #8 PSU 35 Comment: OU has been rolling over ranked teams all year long.
#4 Alabama vs. #5 Southern Cal (Sugar Bowl, would rotate between Sugar, Orange, Rose, and Fiesta)(reason I chose this to be BCS is because this is the closest Round 1 game)
Prediction: #5 USC 56, #4 Bama 21 Comment: Bama doesn't belong here, they haven't had any challenge.
#2 Florida vs. #7 Texas Tech (Holiday Bowl)
Prediction: #2 UF 42, #7 Tx Tech 21 Comment: Tech hasn't been quite right since playing OU.
#3 Texas vs. #6 Utah (Cotton Bowl)
Prediction: #3 Texas 38, #6 Utah 35 Comment: Utah gives Texas a run for their money.
Round 2:
#1 Oklahoma vs. #5 Southern Cal (Fiesta Bowl, would rotate with Orange, Rose, and Sugar)
Prediction: #1 OU 49, #5 USC 35 Comment: Oklahoma gets revenge for the 2004 championship.
#2 Florida vs. #3 Texas (Rose Bowl, would rotate with Orange, Fiesta, and Sugar)
Prediction: #2 UF 48, #3 Texas 42 Comment: Florida is better, but only by a little.
Championship:
#1 Oklahoma vs. #2 Florida (Orange Bowl, would rotate with Rose, Fiesta, and Sugar)
Prediction: #1 OU 49, #2 UF 28 Comment: If OU plays well, this could get ugly.
There's what I think this year's playoff would look like. _________________ Am I the only one who sometimes comes here, logs in, and fools around?

Well I'm not sure about the Pats Franchise taggin' Cassel. But who knows. Training camp and next season will reveal the method to their madness. I hope. _________________

I missed the Texas game because my car died and I was getting it towed across town to my mechanic. Blah.
I'm glad to see they won. I would have expected a larger margin of victory, and not a hail-mary at the end of the game by OSU trying to tie it. Kudos to the Buckeyes for putting up a big fight.
The Big XII is acquitting themselves quite well this bowl season. Tech laid an egg, but Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and now Texas have all won against decent opponents. The Big XII was a decent conference this year. Now Oklahoma just needs to show up against Florida. That ought to be a pretty good game. |

Don't forget, though, the other OSU lost to Oregon. Still, the Big 12 is good.
BTW, did you hear who Mack Brown is going to vote for #1 in the Coaches Poll? It's a team that is not in the Championship, and probably isn't the best.
BIG HINT: It's his own TEAM. _________________ Am I the only one who sometimes comes here, logs in, and fools around?

Knock me over with a feather that Mack would vote for Texas. He has a legit argument... one very close loss on the road to a team with two losses, all of whom were at one time in the title game hunt.
It's all academic. The Powers That Be have decided that ONLY Florida and Oklahoma deserve a shot at the title, so that's what we get.
Give me a playoff any day and I'm happy. This bowl game stuff is just a rank mess. I feel cheated that I don't get to see Utah take on USC, or Oregon State take on Texas. Those are possible "second round" matchups if we were having a playoff instead of this nonsense. |

When I first heard about a playoff, I dismissed it with ease. Didnt like it one bit.
But the more I hear and read, it actually sounds rather good. It would be beneficial for Utah. I bet they could be strong contenders. _________________ Go Green! Go White! Go State! |

I wish there was a playoff system look at the mess a few years ago when USC, Oklahoma, and Auburn were all undefeated many thought that Auburn could have upsetted USC.
The bottom line is money having so many bowls adds attention which in turn helps increase revenue. Its all about the money I mean this is the same deal with MLB salary cap the leauges just cares about making money. _________________ Hey just because I didn't finish my sentence dosn't make me lazy.
