As several people have pointed out already, I think it would be great if the set index/reviews could be brought up to date and kept up with. I know that is a lot for one person to manage, so perhaps the reviews could come from a group of folks. As for photos, nearly all of the photos in that section of the site are box art only, so to maintain consistency, it wouldn't be difficult to obtain some publicity photos. Somebody suggested you could just link from the set index to reviews in the forum. . . that would seem a sort of cop-out to me, but it is a viable solution. I bring this up because a) the set index is something that interests me and brought me to FBTB in the first place, and b) there are constantly threads in the forums about "What should I buy next?", and this would provide an opportunity for those individuals to find the information they're looking for.

As has been stated, too, I think it would be cool if there could be an area of the site that has photos of contest-winning models, available to look at all together without surfing around several pages on 2 or 3 sites. I, too, would appreciate a news archive that could be browsed, searched, and read back several months at least.

Also, I have wondered about another point that's been brought up. Perhaps I'm delusional, but it seems that FBTB has at least a bit of an inside track with some folks involved with TLG. If that is the case, I think it is a unique and exciting opportunity to perhaps "get the juice" on some upcoming sets. I realize that nobody wants TLG to be broadcasting their marketing plans for 2010 or anything like that, but perhaps someone could get an interview with just a couple questions about 1 new Star Wars set coming in August?

I'd love to see the chat room return. But that does open itself to spambots.

And maybe tabs at the top of the main page that are Set Reviews/Forums for the other Licensed lines (Indy, Speed Racer, Spiderman, Batman).

In the Forums, I'd like it if we went to a sponsor program. When someone wants to join, they randomly get assigned a veteran member (at least 1 year). They are prompted to email the veteran and give a synopsis of why they want to join FBTB. The veteran then chooses to accept or deny the applicant and then they are moved to a probation stage (60 Days or so), where it will take the approval of the veteran and a Moderator to remove them. I know that's a lot of work but it will cut down on the snipe, childish behavior and spam.

Tell you what, I'll fix that one right this second.

Also, I'd love for an official Sidekick policy to come into place.

Perhaps a button on the main page for the chat room? That seems like it might eliminate most of the "where's the chat?" questions.

Also, Oz, sodekick policy? Explain please.

Would a link somewhere on the forums work? I only realised it existed after it was pointed out to me by another member.

I would so be Austin's side kick in an instant.

We tried the whole buddy thing once, it didn't get very far. I wonder if the topic is still stickied in the BCS.

Fetty: Maybe a stickied "chat handle" thread would be in order, since not everyone goes by the same username everywhere - an have the link tossed in there. Plus questions like how to register your name and other basic stuff would be posted too, since it comes up a lot.

That would be "Cribz" with a "z". In fact, to get in the mood, replace all your "s"s with "z"s. Laughing

But seriously, I totally love that idea.

This seems unnecessary and elitist. The reality is that this is an internet-based community, not a fraternity or secret society (at least I hope it's not the latter), so instituting some kind of glorified initiation process seems unwarranted and callous. I know some of the posts in the forums also seem unwarranted at times, but that's the nature of the beast. . .

I agree it may seem over the top, but you have to look at it from the staff's perspective.

I know a lot (read: an absolute metric butt-ton) of members are very young, and this is their very first internet forum. The buddy system isn't put into place to be condescending, but to help members who aren't proficient at internet communication. It's not a matter of being elitist, or a fraternity; it's a matter of necessity that has been shown time and time again to help members become better internet citizens. I can name off at least ten members who started off terrible, were helped by the buddy program and now are really good posters. That's not coincidence -- it's involvement with a senior member of the forums as guidance.

So yeah, I agree with you to some extent, but I also think that discarding something that's been proven to be highly effective is foolish.

I think I missed the Buddy Program. When did this happen? If I could get more history on it or read some posts, I'd be open to changing the opinion below:

Personally, I'm not sure I'm into the sponsor/sidekick thing. It sounds like more work than anyone reading a forum would want to do, truthfully, and I could see it just falling apart really quickly. It's a noble idea, but not, I feel, a practical one.

It's basically been the Newbie Help Center until registration closed down and newbies stopped coming in. In addition, I know of a few members who've done it via PM so it's a less obvious thing.

I'd like to see the definitive SWL set reference - availability dates, prices in different countries whilst they were available, which ones were exclusives and where, packaging variants, etc., with links to eBay searches, Bricklink, (legal) on-line instructions, etc.

A bit like Brickset's set resources, but on steroids.

For a Star Wars LEGO oriented site & a sort-after set, this is a little embarrassing ...

That's.... not a bad idea. Kinda makes sense, too. LEGO is kept in "tubz." Heh.

Chief, speaking of the chat room link, I could just very simply do that in 1 minute. All I'd need is one file.
