|
|
As stated in the B/S/T/F section, I have spotted all five of the Power Miners sets at retail, here in the Netherlands. I don't know if we are the first country to get these, but perhaps Lego is spreading the 2009 sets diffusely over the world (we don't seem to have the Pirates sets yet).
After I saw they had been spotted, I was actually planning on buying one or two, but after seeing them 'in the flesh', I turned back on my decision. I would have liked to make a review for any of these sets, but all five sets were just too ugly for me to buy any of them, although the big rig is probably the best one out of the bunch.
I hope someone else likes them enough to buy and review them!
EDIT: I ninja'd myself. Bought two sets anyway. _________________ WWAD: What Would Alldarker Do?

Ah, I sense some disbelief... Anyway, your 'wish' is my command.
OK, so I caved in (pun intended, considering the theme): I bought 8957 and 8960 (I don't know the names of these sets). BTW, I was slightly mistaken in my earlier post: there are a total of six sets, not just five. The backs of the boxes show the sets being combined in pairs to make larger vehicles, although there don't not seem to be instructions included in the boxes for these combined vehicles. I guess the boxes make these sets look uglier than they might be: the lime green gets a little sickening in the amounts it is used on the boxes.
I actually kept the biggest of these two (8960) closed so I could photograph everything in good daylight tomorrow (Sunday). You can see by these pictures that lighting conditions were pretty poor when I got home...
A few quick comments on 8957: the rather cute rock monster is probably one of the highlights of the set. Furthermore, the figures in this theme all have double prints on their heads: one calm face and one shocked face. Also, the different characters actually wear different overalls, with a different symbol on both front and back for each different character, probably to denote their function.
Anyhow, I'll try do a full review tomorrow (in the review section, of course!!!)

That torso is so close to awesome. It just needs to ditch the (pencils?) and the shirt collar. That's annoying. _________________

So it's a rock raiders redo?
Those look pretty good though. I'll have to buy that walker and tear the arms off. _________________ Raptor Fun Fact #73- The raptor's natural enemy is the gas-powered internal combustion off-road vehicle, which is made of evil.
So long everyone, my flight's leaving soon. |

S@H doesn't know the set numbers yet, but it did provide a link to this site:

Those rock monsters are cracking me up! I love them. Heh.
I'm not too crazy about the mining theme itself, but I'll probably pick up a couple for some new torsos, faces, parts, and, of course, CRAZY ROCK MONSTERS. |

Saw this vid linked over at Brothers Brick. An interview with the Power Miners design team...kind of fun. The gent in the middle/right pane who designed 8957 Mine Mech and 8961 Crystal Sweeper is none other than Mark Stafford (AKA Nabii). He's also responsible for 3 sets in the new Space Police III line which proves there is a God. _________________ Hail Brains!
