Just to let you know, I was up at LEGOLAND Windsor yesterday, no pirates there yet. As I expected, but still...

The shop at Legoland is actually quite poor in terms of exclusive and new sets ...

I'm still in a dilemma over these sets. I'd really like some Pirates sets. I wanted them the first time around but my folks had decided I was too old for Lego ( Razz ).

Now, I can make up my own mind ... being 30 and all that ... but I have to ponder whether I can afford them and/or have anywhere to put them. Will I get bored of them as soon as I've built them ?! I fear I am bored of the Indy sets I bought, for example, which is my only real forray outside of the world of SW lego :S

...which is when you take them apart and use the pieces to build something else. Wink

Some of these might make a good basis for the Captain Harlock/Queen Emeraldas universe.

ya know, I think I'm quite different to others ... I'd rather keep my bought sets together and use my spares for building MOCs.

All the sets I have bought but no longer displayed are individually bagged and will stay that way until I have room to re-build and display them.

So this is LEGO trying to make up because they didn't get the POTC lisence? Good move - now that the hype has ended there will be less competition, and the prices will be cheaper Very Happy

No I think they just wanted to bring Pirates back....if it was to make up for no POTC license, they would've brought them out when the POTC movies were out.

Also, MegaBloks has the PotC license
Also, The Pirates line was awesome when it was out years ago, why shouldn't it be again
Also, maybe LEGO is just listening to it's fans more
Also, compared to the first film, the second two were a complete load, so they wouldn't be cashing in on much Razz

These seem to be showing up at TRU stores now. I saw them over the weekend and picked up a couple of the 5.99 set (which was the TRU price suprisingly). The cannons are definetely firing cannons.

As far as firing cannons, I have an older one and to my knowledge all of my sets were from the U.S. Only one of my older ones is a firing cannon, but somehow I got one.

As far as PotC, there is a 4th movie in preproduction. I would guess the idea is to ride the last bits of the wave from the previous 3 movies and get the fans of the original on board to build it up, then really cash in when part 4 comes out and helps drive up interest in all things pirate related.

I stated that they would do to do it a bit later because there would now be less pirates stuff from other manufacturers (Eg MB). If they brought it out then, it would be in direct competition (and kids might be more likely to pick the POTC stuff "cause it from that film").

Well I'm done with the new pirates sets. I got 2 of the $6 cannon set at my TRU with 15% off coupons. Only set I was interested in.

My local TRU in Oklahoma had all the Pirate sets except 6243 Brickbeards Bounty. I bought them all except for 6253 Shipwreck Hideout. Very Happy
For City fans there was 7635 4WD with Horse Trailer, 7631 Dump Truck, and 7633 Construction Site. I also saw some new Creator sets: 6193 Castle Building Set, 6192 Pirate Building Set, 6745 Propeller Power, and 6743 Street Speeder. The new Tiny Turbos were there also.

Any sign of these sets in Canada? I don't want to have to fight my way into New York, particularly in the aftermath of Black Friday...

I'll be using some of the parts I got from Cannon Battle in my current brickfilm project. Smile

This threads only a month old, so I figure I'll bring it back.

I was wondering, now that the pirate sets are all available, what does everyone think. Do they make up for that twelve year gap of no pirates?

I myself was never able to get any of the old pirates sets. I was 4 when the line ended, and didn't start collecting till I was 5, what a shame, cause the old ones look awsome. But I have the new ones and I love them. The soldiers are just great, and the detail on the pirates and soldiers clothing is very nice. And the sets are built farely well, and are very easy to give them all some Moding, like the Fort.

Here's too hoping for a second wave!

Yes. I only managed to get two or three pirate sets in the 90's, being so young at the time. The new sets are really well done, and hopefully wave 2 will have more ships and... stuff.

I've just ordered Blackbeard's Bounty and ten (yes, ten) of the solider packs from S@H. I had the old Bounty when I was younger, and I'm looking forward to getting the new one!

The new pirates haven't interested me much so far. I got a couple Cannon Battles and that's it. IMO the old ones are still much better.
