When I found out that Lego was making Star Wars sets, I was SO excited! I went out to the Toys R Us with my friends at 5:00 the night before so we could be the first ones in at midnight. I wasn't expecting the $100 Mos Espa Podrace, so I picked up the Gungan Sub & the Sith Infiltrator. The OT sets, and the other Episode I sets didn't come out until later in the year, otherwise OT would have been my first choice.

I remember when I was excited to get any new set in January, so I could see the catalog for the new year.

I just happend to be in the store when they were putting out the first line of Star Wars sets. I was in my "Dark Ages" but, for some reason, I always checked out the LEGO aisle when at Toys R Us. I grabbed all the sets, then realized "I can't spend this much!" and I just bought the original X-Wing, and thought this will be the only set I buy.

Got home, put it togehter and thought "I MUST HAVE THEM ALL!" Decided to give up collecting action figures and 'devote my life to LEGO!' A decision that has turned out for the best! (although I still collcect a couple action figure lines...)

Did the same as Greg, had been in the Dark ages and new they were coming out via the internet and bought the speeder bikes. I was going to try and resist buying the others. Soon after, for some strange reason, on my birthday a friend bought me the X-Wing, Snowspeeder, and the Landspeeder. After that I had to have them all as well. (OT anways) Never got the MTT or ATT but have nearly all the OT sets now...incidentally the last set I got was on my birthday(Jul20) and it was the Motorized AT-AT. Well worth the wait. New favorite set! Beats any of the New Clone Wars sets, and actually worth the price. Come on it moves!!! Can the Twilight even come close to that?!?

Out of curiosity, Brickscout, does the AT-AT just shuffle its feet, or does it actually pick up its legs and walk?

My first set was the 4502 X-Wing. I went to a shopping mall with my mother, and I had never even thought of buying Star Wars LEGO, until I saw the X-Wing. (Having seen Ep. IV the night before was also a reason to get it) I had to get it, and now, 3 years later, I have a well established collection, including sets that were out of production before I even started collecting.

It's funny how many AFOLs have the same story as me and you! Including some very prominent AFOLs in the community and people I know who work in the company. Star Wars is to blame!

In the early 90's I picked up all the Islander sets (or "LEGO Cannibals" as I called them), but that was my only LEGO since being a kid. Until Star Wars came out, I tinkered with the idea of buying Pirate sets, but never did because I thought they were too expencive (LEGO, too expencive? Isn't that another thread going on here?)

Excuse the further off topic but...
not only does it lift it's legs, they got the thing to darn near move like it does in the movies.

I think it was Anakin's podracer.

Or maybe, the snowspeeder?

My first Lego Star Wars set was the original AT-TE. I actually wanted the AT-AT but I couldn't find it in any stores. The AT-TE was a subsitute and cheaper too. Smile

My first set was the little Speeder-bike chase set with endor Luke and the two Scout Troopers. I got it the day it came out, I was SO excited! I will NEVER, EVER get rid of that little set... I think it was the very first Star Wars set LEGO made wasn't it? Very Happy

7140 X-Wing
7110 Landspeeder
7150 Darth Vader's TIE & Y-Wing
7130 Snowspeeder
7128 Speeder Bikes

I'll always have a special feeling for these sets. The line couldn't have started any better! I remember after I managed to get these first five sets, I thought of the amazing possibilites that this line could have! What would Han Solo, C-3PO, Liea, Chewie and a regular Stormtrooper look like?

I can't really remember. I think it was either Anakins Podracer, or the Endor Speeder set. I wasn't exactly a huge Star Wars LEGO fan then, but that was when I began getting into LEGO. Right around 2003 was when I really started collecting regularly, rather than one set here and there.

My first LSW set was TIE Bomber. Got it as a present. Had no LEGO. Had never seen STAR WARS. But I got it. But I lost my TIE Pilot Crying or Very sad my first minifig *sob*.

But now ya'll want a heartwarming story of dreams coming true rather than people in dark ages randomly buying stuff. (No offense, people who were in dark ages and randomly bought stuff. Wink )

Fast-Forward a couple of years to 2005. I got a LEGO catalog (y'know, the ROTS one. You know, right. Right?) I saw all the STAR WARS sets. Some of them, I just HAD to have. So for my July birthday, I got the following:
Cloud City (It's in pieces. BUT I WILL REBUILD!!!)
TIE Collection (C'mon. You're 9. There's a LEGO set with four TIEs. Don't tell me you wouldn't get it.)
X-Wing (Yoda's hut one. Loved it. Still love it.)
Ultimate Lightsaber Duel (Also in pieces. Need I say BUT I WILL REBUILD!!!?)(But my Obie. My poor, poor Obie. I lost him)

(Come to think of it, I may have gotten Jedi Starfighter with Vulture Droid a couple months before this. But then, I was just a person in a dark age randomly begging my dad to buy me stuff.)

So now you've read my tale, you'll go straight to ebay or bricklink and buy me a brown head TIE Pilot and an LUL Obie. Right? Right? Hello, anybody home? No? Oh boy, I bet they're already on bricklink now. Tee-hee.

Well, I guess I could finally contribute to this thread. My first set was the 7143 Jedi Starfighter from back in 2002. Even though this was my first set, I never started to collect lego star wars seriously until later. Still one of my favorite sets today Very Happy .

Mine was probably the old, brown vulture droid.

my dad got it for me when we were on holiday. No every time we go, I have to go to the same shop and buy something. Just to say thank you.

Now, how come the stuff doesn't fit in the car on the way back?
