Many people know that this website and forum has a "Respect the Brick" policy; amongst other things, posting of leaked information about future LEGO products, or providing links to such information, is explicitly banned.

But why does this site have that policy, when so many other sites base much of their appeal on posting exactly this sort of information ?

There are several answers to this question. First is a moral one; this information has not been released by LEGO, and for it to have entered the public domain means that someone, somewhere, has passed on information that they shouldn't have. To all intents and purposes that information has been stolen. Pure & simple. And FBTB wants nothing to do with stolen information.

Secondly, information about LEGOs future products is very valuable to their competitors. It gives them insight into LEGOs future plans & their analysis of the market place. It allows them to undermine LEGOs future business. We're all here because we like the product that LEGO produces; yet we know that LEGO, as a company, is having financial difficulties. We care about the product, and hence the company, so anything that undermines the viability of LEGO is a very bad thing, and will not be supported here.

You may argue that once it has been released by other sites, then the cat is out of the bag & there's nothing more that FBTB can do. But you're wrong - we can make a stand against those that care more about their page hit statistics than the viability of our hobby.

And that is what FBTB has chosen to do.
