Anyone else have this set? Great set; with all the vehicles and figures. But there's something lacking here isn't there? Oh yes...It's detail. The hailfire droid is atrociously inacurate. Does this upset anyone else?

A few images from the set:

Though I love the dwarf spider droid, the Hailfire droid upsets me, particurally because of the size of those wheels. Sure it's an ingenious system, but they're so small!

Anyone else have some thoughts on this set?

I'm curious where the inaccuracies you're finding are? when they originally came up with this idea a couple years ago I was over in Billund and the designer showed it too me, I had a similar comment about how I thought the scale was off and that it was too small. He then showed me an image from a cross sections book (they live in those cross sections books) that showed the scale of the Hailfire droid next to a Battle Droid, and when you put a Battle droid figure next to this bad boy its almost spot on. I was suprised too initially, but it really spoke to how close attention these designers try to pay to these different sets.

Yeah, upon examining The New Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels, I'd have to say its about as accurate visually as most LEGO Star Wars sets. Maybe the little "flags" in the front could be smaller and a little higher, but that can't be done in LEGO. Also I suppose they could have tried to put some sort additional detailing, but its really too small to accomplish much. I'm a bit curious as to exactly what is inaccurate as well.

As far as scale goes, the Essential guide lists its height as 8.5 metres. The Essential Guide for droids lists the Battle Droids height as 1.91 metres. If you place a Battle Droid figure next to the Hailfire, the Hailfire is almost exactly 2 Battle Droids tall. So by that scale, the LEGO Hailfire is a about 4 metres in height. So I can see your contention there.

The only thing that I found to be missing was the smaller gun at the front. Besides that, I found this to be a great little set.

I had great fun with it. As soon as I made it I smashed and put in the spare parts bin. Razz

Yeah I'm a little dissapointed in it. It seemed really flimsy to me.

I always thought that it was a good size and even if it was a little small, it would still have been a great set for $20. Now it is just a great set.

It was a great set as far as playability but the wheels were too small; it was a bit off balance, and there was no little gun. Sad

But I still love rolling it around and flicking those missiles! Smile

Wow, SWLF, thanks for adding absolutely nothing to the conversation!

I have been considering buying this set, but from all these inaccuracies, I think I'll just save my money for one of those new Batman sets.

At first the wheel s look too small but like everyone brought out, The New Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels shows the scale to be correct. I picked up two of these sets (one for display the other for parts) and I think the wheel design was pretty ingenious. As for the spider droid, it's an improvment from 7258 Wookie Attack.

Really? That's very suprising to me. But interesting to hear.

As for the topic on hand, I did notice something funny about the hailfire droid, the main thing that bugged me was the size (but apperantly it's close to being correct) The spiderdroid is completely fine though.

I think michealearlwillard noted it's actually only half as tall as it should be. So scale's not right unfortunately. On the other hand, I don't think this thing is as big as many people thought when they viewed AoTC. Certainly the technic version is way too big to work.

Actually it is one of my most favourite sets. Especially because it is so cute small.

The wheels were the main reason I'm dissappointed, they are rather amazingly put together, but about half the size they should be I think. Also there is no small gun under the main carriage of the set. Maybe I'm just a nitpicker, but I'll post a picture of a hailfire compared to a droid...

Shocked I never even noticed how big the wheels are. Thats probably why I always thought it was too small

A Few things I found wrong with the droid.

. No small Gun
. Wheels out of scale with body
. Not enough missles(Yes I know they couldn't add any more)
. Flick Fire Missiles

But, then again this IS a system set. If you like high detail I'd get the UCS Hailfire Droid.

I actually loved the number of missles; and they're so fun! Smile The new design is a lot better. Any more missiles on it and it would be tedious putting them back in though.

What UCS Hailfire Droid?

Do you mean the Technic one? That is even more out of scale than the system set.

Yeah he's probably refering to the technic one. Which looks good on it's own, but horrible compared to any other system sets.

I have both. The technic one is huge compared to any other system sets. Even the Clone Turbo Tank is dwarfed by that monster! Wink The smaller one is nicer in scale IMO.

Yes I know the Technic is out of scale with minifigures.Thought it is high detail. Also I just noticed that a hasbro Star Wars action figure is almost to scale with it. Razz

Those not happy with the official system scale Hailfire, should check out FBTB's own Gareth's version. It's pretty good, and I think closer to the correct scale. (see photo a few posts back).

Yeah thats more of an accurate scale.

The other thing that I didn't like about this set is that it only has 4 missles per side. When normally it should have I believe over 10 per side.

Its still a WIP and I haven't uploaded anything to brickshelf yet, but I took two long pipe pieces and connected them in a circle with two technic pins, then placed about 58 small treads around the circumference. I've got one whole wheel sitting in a mechanism that allows some limited rotation, and once I get round to getting more treads and building a larger hailfire body I should have a properly scaled hailfire droid!
